The Steelers double dip at CB and get Doran Grant in the 4th. Pretty surprised he was still there.

Good head for the game and aggressive.

It seems to me that Butler is shaping his defense around some key principles.

Sweet! Now grab a decent TE and another solid OLB prospect and I'll be happy.

Carnell just said he thinks Grant can switch to safety. Not that that he is ,but he can. He was asked what kind of niche the rookies fit into and he said he's gonna take his time and experiment with them.

They took a TE, so should we expect an OLB for the next round?

As long as it's not a QB I'm fine.

I've got a good friend who grew up in Columbus and is a huge Buckeye fan. He raves about Grant and said he was the guy who was always matched up against the other team's best receiver. I think this is a great pick!

bryant mcfadden won us lombardi trophy number 5 .....

as a rookie he deflected two passes in a row from peyton manning at game end that would have cost us the game in the playoffs, either of those passes was a TD.

Oh, I agree, it is no slight. That is just the ceiling I see for Grant. A serviceable starter if he pans out.

That's what I'm hoping for. I've been banging the Doran Grant drum for a couple of months now. I've never felt that he was a star in the making, but I think his floor is pretty high. He's going to be a solid NFL player, and if our pass rush gets close to what it used to be, we just need solid corners.

    :this!:

What he said... I was hoping we could get this Buckeye...

Didn`t think he would still be there, when we got him!

Grant is the most NFL ready DB we drafted, he had 5 picks as well last year, he is football smart and with 5 preseason games he has a good chance to prove he can start this year:

Doran Grant comes out of a pro-style, press coverage defense at Ohio State and is NFL-ready. He's big enough and strong enough to handle the line of scrimmage and has active, patient hands to jam receivers. He's a three-down player who will attack the run and bring down ball-carriers on the edge, and then gives versatility in coverage because he can line up inside or outside at corner. Grant is football smart, and you'll see him on film getting teammates lined up and pointing out changes on offense. He won't get fooled by double moves and was one of the best cornerbacks evaluated at seeing screens and getting into position to break them up. He's a balanced mover with good agility and speed to recover.

I respectfully disagree. Mcfadden at Florida State was all about " FLASH " he tried to make the SPECTACULAR play again and again, and even when he was here with the Steelers he tried, and he was often caught by the opposing offenses.

No sir. When I have watched Grant play, his style. His demeanor on the field, which was always rather quiet and Unassuming. Not lacking any confidence mind you, just not a Loud on the field personality. And when I see Grant...I picture a totally different Pittsburgh Steeler DB that Grant reminds me of. He was not originally drafted by the Steelers. But he is often not remembered as fondly as he SHOULD be by Steeler fans. And that player was " DeWayne Washington "

THAT is the player that Doron Grant reminds me of. A Classy, unassuming guy who just grabs his Lunch Pail and Hard Hat and goes to Work!

I like that kind of versatility, one of the reasons I liked Rowe, being able to disguise your coverages is a nice wrinkle to throw at offenses.

In terms of style of play ... not sure I see Dewayne Washington in Grant? First off Washington was a small guy, who in his prime made some really nice interceptions. Grant is known for his size, strength, and tackling and not so much int.'s.
