On how they base it, no you're not. But you also are not taking into account that 90 % of his routes were either long deep routes, or undernieth routes where he was supposed to be a Blocker.

You are going to be just like PWP pimping DHB constantly.

Oh and just to let you know...The year Limas Sweed came out, he had the LOWEST % of dropped passes in the NCAA. Best of ALL WR's in that draft. Just to let you know.

I guess I am not getting the pick, apparently the Steelers are planning on one of their current top 4 wr leaving?

I understand the need for a wr, but I really would have preferred another cb or olb in the 4th.

you have to understand what auburn does. he plays in a spread option system and he runs screens and go routes with a qb who is a corner. he is another high character guy who just makes plays. trust me, he made them all the time in the sec. not saying he is the best wr in this draft by no means but in the 3rd, he could be a major steal in a few years

In addition, Coates probably isn't the headcase that Sweed was

Not a fan of the pick, but the Sweed comparison is not accurate imo.

There are only so many footballs to go around, somebody is going to be dissappointed.
I believe the Steelers are hedging their bets that they won't be able to afford one of the 4 WR already seeing significant playing time. Wheaton?
    Don't like the pick.

This is the big difference for me. Sweed was a monster but his mental issues just destroyed his career. I don't care about the drops, and he didn't even have that many. They just happened in big time situations which stuck with many people. He could've improved but sank into his dark hole and never came out. Which was my main concern with Marcus Peter, BTW.

I'd be glad if Coates turns into a Sweed without the mental issues, because we'd be getting one heck of a WR.

Based on what I hear about his character, if Coates fixes his drops like I believe he can, I see him being a captain/leader of the offense in a few years. He's the kind of player that teammates rally around

The way I look at things is this I would rather have more then less. With that said a few points about this pick.

    * we went our biggest needs before this pick cb & olb
    * we got a talented wr and still drafted our needs again
    * what happens if we have an injury to one of our wr's, we are stuck with DHB....no ty
    * getting a wr here lets us ease him in like Bryant last year and be set for next year in case Wheaton walks
    * in this pass happy nfl I am glad to have 4 good wr's
    * how many years does Ben have left , give him weapons now while he is still good

Wheaton could be expendable after the 2015 season. Let Bryant be the #2 WR in 2016, and Coates be the #3 WR.

We'll have to see ... Torrey Smith doesn't have great hands, but he was able to catch a few, and sometimes when he didn't he drew a Pass Interference Call.

If Coates can take the top off the coverage and do similar stuff I think thats all we need.

This. I was unsure when initially selected but this is a good pick and quite honestly, needed.

No, Coates is not sweed. More like Nate Washington.

I want to see what Coates does before I write him off. There may be some small flaw in the way he catches the ball that Mann can correct. Let's give him at least a camp before we write him off as a bust like Sweed was.

In order to be a bust you have to actually play (and suck). He hasn't even practiced with the team yet, let alone played on the field... He's a third round pick tho, I'm sure he will get much more opportunity than a single camp to prove his worth.
