I still remember Troy's first game and first play as a Steeler.
Somehow he landed on his face trying to make a tackle, and his body flipped over his head.

My woman said "oh my, he might be paralyzed".

I said "well, that was a short career, no way does he get up from that".

I truly thought he would be carried off the field, never to be seen again.
THEN HE SPRANG TO HIS FEET.

That first game and first tackle by Troy was a Joe Theismann moment. Next to Theismann, it was the most horrible contortion of a neck and head that i ever saw.
I didnt expect him to ever play again, let alone get back on his feet.

I was super impressed, and from then on, he just showed me why he is so awesome.

I always said he had the worst tackling form I`d ever seen, although that may be a bit of an exagerration, since half the league goes for "highlight reel" hits, over proper tackling, nowadays.

I nicknamed him "The human torpedo", for how often he left his feet, to launch himself into the ballcarrier, and it wasn`t entirely a compliment.;)

However, he was successful, at bringin the guy down, much more often than not, until the last two years, or so.

Gotta wonder if that style contributed to his multiple concussions?:hmmm:

Would have never bothered asking that question two years ago, before that became such a talking point, in the media...

Unorthodox, or not, I`m glad as hell we had him while we did, and extremely thankful for his many, many, contributions to Black and Gold victories!!!

    GO STEELERS!:herewego!:

    Edit...
And I don`t remeber seeing Theismann twist his neck, but the bone sticking out of his leg on Monday Night Football, was GRUESOME!

I remember that! I also remember Elway against us getting flipped up and landing on his head in the 87 AFC playoff game?

i was a kid back then hoping he'd be done for the day, you know to help the cause. I knew he was done... But nope... He was fine, he beat us.

Troy was a beast man and I remember thinking if Elway can pop up so will he! Awesome!!!

    thanks for the memory!

Damn 89? Got my facts messed up. I remember Hoge and lips doing pretty well... Thought we had it if #7 don't get up. Oh well, it was truly a good game

Damn, Coastal, I didn`t remember that...

    It`s appropriate, tho...

Same kinda "knock you on your ass", no matter what, style of play...

Maybe I heard that about Shell, in my youth,

And subconsciously applied it to Troy, when I watched him play...

I bet Troy could have played better, if Donnie didn`t make them change the rules, when he played...

    Same hard hitting style...

Glad they both wore Black and Gold!!!
