[h=2]Mike Tomlin believes in the Steelers' current batch of cornerbacks[/h] By Jeff.Hartman@BnGBlitz on Mar 26, 2015, 7:00a 14

While speaking to media at the owners' meeting, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin spoke about how he believes in the current batch of Steelers CBs on the roster.

Mike Tomlin is a known wordsmith. His press conferences are pure hilarity in terms of how he weaves his way in and around difficult questions, always using verbage only he would use to construct an intricate web of deception and distraction.
So, when Tomlin declares to the media at the owners' meeting earlier this week that he "believes" in the current crop of cornerbacks on the Steelers' 2015 roster, pardon me for call B.S. and Tomlin doing his usual song and dance which equates to nothing but blowing smoke.
See Tomlin's response to the simple question of whether the team is concerned about the cornerback situation:
"We believe in the process that we go through, and we also believe in the men that we have. I know that some of the guys that we have on our roster at the position right now don't have extended resumes. But that's always the case. How do you gain experience without going through the process of gaining experience. These guys are driven, and they want to be positive contributors to our efforts and reasons why we are successful. Some of those guys played key roles down the stretch last year. Antwon Blake made a few significant plays for us in big moments, stripping the ball from A.J. Green late in December to kind of secure the AFC North title for us, being an example. I expect the guys that we have continue to grow and get better. I expect to add credible and competent men to that mix to provide competition, and put them in a competitive environment to see who comes out on top. And I am completely comfortable that at the end of that we are going to have above the line cornerback play."
Let's call a spade a spade here, what is Tomlin supposed to say in response to that question? "Well, I'm not sure if William Gay, Cortez Allen, Antwon Blake and B.W. Webb could cover anyone?" No. As stated before, the coach knows how to manipulate the media, and he knows how to get his players' attention through those media members.
It pains me to think this, but Tomlin might actually be right about the men he currently has in the room. Sure, the team will look to address cornerback in the upcoming NFL Draft, but take a look at the list of players again. Gay has been nothing more than extraordinary the past few seasons, being hands down the team's best cornerback. Cortez Allen followed a great 2013 up with a dud in 2014. Who am I to say he can't resurrect his career with another strong season in 2015? Last year, the team was slaughtered for bringing in Brice McCain, but when McCain was thrust into the starting lineup, he produced. Antwon Blake could follow the same role as McCain did in 2014. Webb continues to be the outlier in this equation, but as Tomlin referenced in his quote, he doesn't have much of an expanded resume.
The Steelers' secondary needs help, but Tomlin believing in his players shouldn't shock anyone. He is a good coach and understands his words carry extra connotation in some instances, this being one of those times. Regardless of what fans think, a big-name free agent isn't walking into the South Side facility looking for a job. Sometimes all you have to do is believe.

I'm amazed at how that comment by Tomlin has taken over a life of its own. Tomlin was clearly pissed by the performance of his team, makes a comment, and some steeler fans are still whining about it 5 years later.

Most of us that still whine about that statement do so because it had zero, none, nada, nil and almost negative results. The team didn't miss a beat in their softness after that statement.

So that would be the players fault for failing to produce results and rise to the occasion. WTH was Tomlin supposed to do?

If he didn't say anything fans would be bashing him saying "he never says anything! He just stares with a deer in the headlights look". Tomlin is never going to win with some fans.

He should have taken out his wallet pulled out his man card and turned it in. He went all in and lost he must now bear the mark of his shame.

Oh BS. He deserves ridicule for that comment. You don't make tough guy statements to only come out like kittens the rest of that season. If you don't want ridiculed for phony tough guy predictions, don't make tough guy claims. And it wasn't just that comment; he has made plenty of others that are from the same realm, i.e. "We are going to fix this or that" only to not correct what he claimed he was going to. If MT makes statements that turn out to be embarrassing he has to own it and we fans can gripe if we want to and there ain't a damn thing you can do about it.

The only person spewing bs is you. more often than not when Tomlin does make a claim the problem is corrected. For example the penalties at the beginning of last year.

We only have 3 on the roster, so I hope he likes them! Lol, jokn aside, they would look better if we got pressure on the QB. When we did last year we had success, but that was just a few games outta 17

He "believes" in our CBs? Does he also believe in the Easter Bunny? If he does, I am sold on that too.

The comment that stood out to me was:

"How do you gain experience without going through the process of gaining experience?"

So, why does it take forever to get the young guys on the field?

Why? Why is Tomlin slammed for trying to fire up the team, the players failed IMO.

    They really don't anymore.

"As far as unleashing hell this week, well, we just didnt perform. They have a good team and they did a good job at making me put my foot in my mouth. My injury from the foot to mouth is no excuse, it always next man up. But obviously, that didnt happen today. The standard is the standard so this is just totally unacceptable."

He'll never lose with others. In fact I'd say that with some he gets an abundance of credit for success, and a complete pass for failure.

There's no doubt about it. A strong pass rush will make any CB look better. I'm not sure where we're going to find strong pass rushers though. Moats and Jones have 12 career sacks between them, and Deebo was born when the Shah ruled Iran and Billy Beer was still a thing.

Yeah well, call me crazy, I have a hard time bashing somebody for trying to motivate his team. I have a hard time bashing somebody who has a winning track record that he does. I have a hard time bashing somebody that has been to 2 SB's already, winning one of them. I have a hard time bashing somebody that is in the midst of rebuilding the team successfully, won the division and went a 11-5 last year and is a secondary away from being a dominant team. So yeah, he gets a lot of rope from me. I know silly! The scrub hasnt won the SB every year! Off with his head!

He inherited a young franchise QB and a top 3 defense.
