Randy Gregory is easily one of the top defensive prospects in this year’s draft class. Gregory, a standout defensive end from Nebraska, views himself so highly as a prospect that he believes he’s worthy of the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.
However, failing a drug test at the NFL Combine won’t help his status.
In an interview with Kim Jones of the NFL Network, Gregory admitted that he tested positive for marijuana at the event in late February in Indianapolis.
“I blame myself,” Gregory said. “And I know it sounds cliché, but there’s really no one else I can blame.”
The combine has set dates. All the participants know when it is. And yet, somehow players still occasionally fail the drug tests they know await them in Indy.
Gregory says he hasn’t smoked marijuana since December and yet still tested positive because of how high his THC levels were.
    Seriously.
That seems incredibly far-fetched. A highly trained athlete preparing for the combine, working out several times a week in the lead-up to the event, having not smoked marijuana in close to two months and still tests positive? Not sure I buy that one.
Now Gregory will be in the league’s drug system, which means he’ll be tested for recreational drugs more frequently and will be much closer to a potential suspension in the future.
It could have an effect on how early Gregory is drafted next month.
Gregory is an intriguing pass rushing prospect and his skills will still lead to him being selected early in the draft. However, if Gregory cannot control his off-field decisions, he could find himself following Josh Gordon’s footsteps in the future.

Thc only stays in your system 30 days, inphedamines stay in your system 72 hours, Of course if a hair sample was used during the test, that detects drug use going back 6,mnths to a year.

I'm fine with taking him at 22 if he drops. Heck, look what the MJ did for Bell... :roflmao:

I'd steer clear of him, he obviously can't lay off the weed, everyone knows you will be tested before the combine and he still couldn't resist taking a puff.

    Agreed BF.

Not that I was "HIGH" on him before the draft. (see what I did there :lolol:).

He has measureables (size speed) but Alex Kozora on Steelers Depot did a draft profile on him and I agree with several of his comments like not impactful against the run, lacks experience dropping in coverage
I expect more out of a top 10 pick

This. You have to be thickheaded as hell to do something this stupid. Josh Gordon would be proud.

Crazy that this probably lost him more money than most people will make in their life.

Bucky Brooks says this may drop him a whole round or two.

I think most teams, not just the goody-two-shoes teams anymore, are becoming less tolerant of any of the off-field stuff. He was a guy with questions before, and now this certainly won't help his case.

Sad, but very true. Maybe when get him in the second like we did Adams?

He has failed 2 drug tests while at Nebraska. One more and he would have been kicked off the team. Plus he couldn't get academically eligible in the beginning of his college career. He went to a junior college then 2 years at Nebraska.

Like mentioned above, he is a liability against the run. There's a reason Melvin Gordon hung 4 bills on the Huskers defense. The Huskers DC sucked but that's another story. He's gone though.

So a pass rushing specialist and coming into the league entered in the drug program. Not a great start.

This is could really affect us. Assuming he falls and the Steelers don't take him, that's one less OLB available. Most likely we're not going to get one of the top 5(4) guys now. I'm not comfortable with the other guys in the first. And personally, I don't want Gregory, even if he falls. C'mon, this the 3rd drug test he's failed within a year. Some people never learn. We've seen it time and again. Now hopefully Kevin Johnson hangs on for dear life.

    Randy Gregory anyone?

He admitted to failing weed test at combine.

He is a top 10 talent.

1.) If weed is his only black mark, I would not stop considering him completely.

2.) He can get to the passer; our only guy who can is 36.

3.) He looks like a 3-4 OLB might be his natural position, looks a little small for a 4-3 DE. (Only weighs 235).

I know we need CB help. But if this guy falls, we desperately need an edge rusher, especially since JJ is a big ? mark. You need some special players to become a contender. A team full of "just guys" never wins a ring. This guy can get to the passer. I say if he falls to 22, we grab him.

ok if they draft him you have to file a written statement with TTF that says you will not piss and moan about not taking a CB in the first round ever:thumbs_up:

And open the flood gates for everyone of us to piss and moan taking another young buck that has priorities screwed up.hope he gets his act together, but no thanks. And even when weed is legal with the league, I hope we stay away from the known souls that can't get stuff right. Too much drama around any of it anymore.

We definitely should at least consider it. If we left him on the table for a CB like Peters or Johnson, then cool... but he could be at the very least a situational pass rusher on our team, at least till he bulks up and figures out the run. He would be one of the few players that we could draft that would be able to offer us something immediately.

It's funny, Adams seems to have kept himself clean, but hasn't developed into the pro that his college tape suggests he could be. Will something similar happen with Gregory if he kicks the weed habit? Is weed as necessary for these guys as spinach is for Popeye?

and with my teacher salary, I don't feel one damn bit bad for him. He knew what he had to do, yet chose to not do it...

EDIT: same with Bell and Blount last year. If I had been arrested like they had, I would've had to report it immediately to the school district. And then I most likely would've been fired! I'm sure there are others on this board who would be in the same boat. These guys do this kinda crap and get slaps on the wrist. Just don't feel one bit bad for any of them
