yea I think Harold could be a first rounder. it just depends on how it falls. if a bunch of these pass rushers go early other good players drop. with the news of JH not retiring and wanting to return, it could change what we go after early. even if worilds doesn't come back. moats would almost have to be signed then. that could allow us time to bring hojo or zumwalt or lemon along. we could go after a guy later if we wanted.

do you think mauldin with a 4.81 run today could sleep at our pick in the 3rd ?

I don't know freak. he plays faster than that. he's a pretty decent guy off the edge in both the pass rush and run defense. he's got plenty of speed for that. he's faster than JJ and probably faster than Woodley was I believe. nope, I went and checked, Woodley was faster.

Beasly might get out schemed in a 3-4 . He needs to keep that weight up . He gets pushed around by big strong guys on tape.

Yeah 35 reps in the BP doesn't necessarily equate to playing strength. We already have Shazier, Mitchell and Thomas for the missileers of our defense, so if we go OLB, like you, I'd prefer someone with a little sand in their pants.

I think at this point our best hope for a top edge player is Mauldin in the 2nd, as he's a bigger guy with some athleticism. But does he make it to #54? Even he could be gone. Unless one of the top guys gets pushed down, I think we take a later round chance on some 4-3 DE hybrid guys in the 6'3", 270-lb range like a Preston Smith, Anthony Chickillo or even Frank Clark.

even guys like hunter and Harold as well as mauldin hold their ground well, but we still need pressure on the qb too.

I do agree with your point in part GB. this is also why I'm intrigued with a couple of guys already here. (nix and kruger) if butler can find a way to incorporate these guys in as specialty players, say in the sub packages that we could really have something going.

they are stout and big enough to play the run but have enough skill at getting by blocks and into the backfield that maybe we don't really need a full time OLB to do it all in this draft. it would be nice, but I think these others still could have a place on this defense without putting all our eggs in one basket.

there is a nice writeup on nix in the steelers depot. the results are there, but it's up to a inventive mind in the NFL to put it into practice. maybe butler can be that guy.

then maybe moats, hojo, zumwalt can be brought along to be that more fulltime OLB. who knows?

I'd have no problem with any of the 4 in (Harold, mauldin, kikaha or hunter). Dupree, to me has underperformed in college for his size weight and speed ratio. I could see bust in this kid and I think it's mostly awareness on his part. something that's hard to coach into someone. I don't envy the scouts this year.

Dupree is a stud but sometimes he disappears in games. I would love to have him but I thought he was rated higher than Beasley?

    aka John Smith

Seriously though, he has had surgery on both hips. And Kikaha has had ACL tears to both knees, one in '11 and one in '12. Some medical concerns with both. 3rd round or later and I'd take the chance on either. Tough for me to pick these two in the first 2 rounds. I'm not a risk taker this year.

that's 2011 and 2012. kikaha has 70+ tackles a season and a lot of TFL and sacks in 2013 and 2014. not sure it's such a risk. pretty solid numbers for an OLB. no way he makes it to round 3 and may not make it to round 2. there are only so many top flight pass rushers in this draft and if we want one we better not wait long. I think he and Harold are good enough to go to a team that really needs help in the first.
