He should have been fired already.

At this point, I'm not sure a live double murder while holding kiddie porn would get him fired.

He should be fired but who knows. I keep hearing that he makes them money so he won't be fired. Pretty sure whoever they replace him with would make them money, you could get a pet rock and put it in power and the NFL will make money.

Goodell gets paid 43 million a year, that seems extra ordinary considering his job isn't that difficult, he makes by far at least 150% more money a year than any super star player in the league and before you say he negotiates the TV money, the truth is a professional negotiater with a team of lawyers does the negotiations while goody two shoes shows up as a bystander ....

I just shake my head when people say Goodell's job isn't hard, or a trained monkey can do it. If that was the case, they wouldn't be paying the kind of salary they do and they would have hired Joe Blow from the street to do the job. There's far more to it than some of you want to realize.

And no, Goodell isn't getting fired nor will there be any evidence proving he watched that tape (if he did even watch it)

I don't know about degree of difficulty about his day to day responsibilities but if you're suggestion that the league needs Goodell to make money, that definitely makes me shake my head.

I'm not sure about his day to day responsibilities or that someone couldn't make the league money but I have heard they owners would be reluctant to make a change because of his relationships with sponsors, the unions, vendors, the Networks and so on. They could make a change but the potential revenue loss in those one to two years while someone new gets acquainted with everyone could make the owners a bit shy about making the change.

The owners obviously believe they are better with Goodell than without him. The NFL may make money with anyone, how much is the question. You don't give the owners enough credit. Goodell is obviously an asset or they wouldn't pay him what they do

Well, they like him I never said they didn't. They've never had a reason to get rid of him until now, I think you have to admit that he has taken more of a hit then you ever thought possible so far, the man went into hiding.

The NFL is a self sustaining juggernaut, and that is really the basis of my point, not so much a slight towards Goodell, put anyone in charge and it will just keep on churning out money.

@Thorn, I really don't see how any of that will change if another commish steps in, no one is involved with the NFL out of the goodness of their heart, they are all in it to make money, which they will do with or without Goodell.

True to an extent. That's not going to be enough for shareholders, team owners, etc. though. They'll want to know that they're getting the best deal, maximising profits and interest in the game etc. Striking the right balance between player and owner benefits, ensuring competitiveness, and so on... I'm sure there's more than a few people who could do it, but I think it's entirely possible for someone to make a big mess of it.

Honestly, some owners aren't and haven't been on the same page with Goodell since day 1. He should be fired and if enough of em stand up then he might just be. I don't see it happening myself, but mows their chance.

P.S. The league will be fine without him, sad part is I believe he's pressured politically and all the PC stuff to do what he's done and he's been playing ball. That alone might save his hide with the special interest groups and politicians...

I don't think that would be hard to find, Thig. I don't think there is anything special about Goodell, I think Rozelle was 10 times the commissioner that Goodell is and did more for the game then anyone else ever has.

I don't think the league would skip a beat if they had a new guy running it tomorrow.

Goodell had to deal with a lot of issues that he didn't create. It's his job to take the heat and solve those issues for the owners. Sometimes he got it right and sometimes he did not.

Goodell has increased the revenue of the league. That keeps the owners happy.
