I didn't notice this the other day but apparently William Gay is wearing purple cleats now to highlight domestic violence. He doesn't have a shoe deal so he went to the Vikes site and got some of their cleats and is wearing them. It is supposed to be a $5,512 fine and Ike said if he gets fined that he will pick up the check because he believes the cause is so noble. I've been hard on Gay but this is honestly a really stand up move by him. Here's the article. It also points out that Gay has the longest active streak for a db at 120 in the league.

I think it's pretty cool of him. I wonder why he wasn't fined.

Just a question, but could it be that they are at least "official" NFL footwear?

Hmm, perhaps. I know the league fines players when their shoes don't match the team's base color, though.

I made a comment to my wife that I didn't know what looked more stupid, the dance or the shoes? Now I respect the shoes. I still think all of the theatrics make players look dumber than they are.

After their recent spate of bad publicity with domestic violence, I don't think they want to touch that one :lolol:

This morning's headline: commissioner Goodell fines player for taking a stand against domestic violence.

(Or did I miss the green font? ;-) )

Right? Can you IMAGINE the uproar that would have caused? I liked the shoes and what they represented, especially to him personally. The TD dance? LOL Im still laughing about it.

I'm just laughing at how one missed capital letter, and this is a whole different thread. ;)

I support his cause, and the league MAY have to fine him anyway. But I think if they can overlook it, they will (in this case).

They may fine him but I doubt it.. its a hot topic right now. Keep it low key and talk to coach directly.. Gay won't be wearing any gay shoes come Sunday..

This is a sure indicator of what generation a person grew up in. Older guys like me appreciate the guys who do their job without making a spectacle of themselves. Younger people enjoy and relate to the "look at me, look at me" antics.
