Just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on McCullers performance last night and how that relates to his playing time in the future?

honestly I know dan and was very proud. but mostly surprised. I thought he played as well as he ever has. he has come so far in a short time and is only gonna get better. he will respond well to this because he is the kinda player who can get down on himself.

unless I missed something he should be praised by coaches for his performance and he will feed off of that. he got a lot of penetration last night from what I seen and held up very well in running game.

I was watching on my wife's phone and the signal was spotty at best, so I saw 10 seconds of action and then 10 seconds of buffering, but from what I saw he wasn't disruptive and didn't generate much push, but most importantly, he wasn't pushed around, either! He either stood his ground, or moved his man back a little, I not once saw him move backwards, only sideways, which is very nice to see.

He should be active the rest of the season and given a handful of snaps each game to grow.

I think this will be the case. I think they actually want to use him more and they should. I suspect we will see his snap count increase each game, barring any terrible performances of course. He's a BIG presence in there :smiley1:

I posted in another thread that on at least one zone stretch to the right he had 2 blockers and drove them back into the runners path. Problem was no one else was where they should have been to the outside and Foster managed to get some good yards down the sideline.

    Nice!

McCullers should take Cam Thomas' roster spot once McClendon is healthy. Thomas seems like a good guy, and I hate to root against someone like this, but his play is so poor that it should be an obvious choice for our coaching staff to make.

I saw the same thing on the one stretch play. He took two guys and pushed them back into the Foster. I have not seen that since the Hampton days. McClendon usually tries to go into the gap and use his speed, Thomas usually gets push into the linbacker area. He is big and strong, and if he ever learns to stay low and use his leverage he could be something.

In any event I would like to see him playing more.

Cam is a liability at this point and should be sent back to San Diego.

The good thing about that play is there was no way they could legally chop him, since he was engaged with the two blockers!

Probably jumping the gun but if he can steadily improve I wouldn't mind seeing some packages with him at NT and Mclendon when healthy at DE.

McClendon is a 3-4 DE. his size, strength and agility all point to that. However, our coaching staff is stupid and have been playing him out of position...since they haven't found a serviceable 3-4 NT. And in turn, hurting the entire defense.

Good point, he's stronger and has a better push than I thought.
