Ben has earned over $200m and has had a great career. His retirement freed up the money they are spending as others have pointed out.

Another reason they have some money for outside free agents is the two horrible drafts in 2018-19, those classes are getting second contracts right now and the Steelers didn’t really have anybody worth retaining from those drafts except Diontae, albeit they kept Chuks, somewhat controversially

I know this will not be a favorable post, but I could see Ben not being a first ballot HOF. More so because he overstayed his ability after the elbow injury. Much the way Bettis' last few years as a short yardage goal line running game hurt his stats.

Very true, although I think there may have been jealousy watching TB

Heck, when I retired I retired on a Sunday. My secretary said why not Friday? I told her I wanted paid for the weekend.

Since the original poster didn't say what Ben was mad about or why he would be, why are people assuming it has to do with FA and the salary cap?

There is still time for the rights to be extended another year, so that "Heinz Field" won't have a name change.

Then he has absolutely nothing to be pissed about. Got paid as an elite qb, but gave substandard play

I agree last year was substandard play, but the year before was not. You are not top 10 in most statistics, and a 12- 3 record because You are substandard no matter how you slice it.
I do agree with last year though. That's why I'm actually glad He's gone this year.

Best bet for a complete team is hitting on a rookie QB during that initial contract. If they are good or championship caliber the second contract will always be huge at that position. Nobody’s agent is letting them take less money to build a better team. Greed will not allow that to happen unfortunately.

Ben never said he was pissed. Someone who doesn’t knew Ben said it. Why is anyone concerned if he’s pissed or not?

y'all are taking this too seriously. it was about all the free agent signings to improve the team. we didn't do anywhere near this much when ben was here, hence the ben is probably pissed. no i'm sure ben isn't pissed really with all the money he has made and will still make.

In all seriousness, I don't see why Ben would be pissed, even in this hypothetical situation (about caring what happens in FA after he is gone).

Ben was less concerned about new free agent signings as he was about keeping his buddies on the team for new or better contracts. By being loyal to them, that strengthens the team bonds with players he worked well with.

Since a lot of the players that Ben had ties to (like his OL) retired, he wouldn't be as concerned about how the salary cap is being spent.

They will never win another championship without a franchise QB and unless you are promoting trading the franchise QB at the end of the rookie deal someone will be making that money again.

we won't have about 10-11 mil sitting there in the other 3 qb's by then. trubisky, rudolph and haskins. in 5 years we should know if our new one is worth the risk or we start over. i think they are in a good situation at this point.

Or even 1 year, If things go tragically wrong.
They aren't locked into any of the three beyond this season (or even this season, for Haskins).

And if the unimaginable happens and all 3 become quality starters (even if not at a Mahomes or Allen level), they will get trade value and/or comp picks.
