And they left because the Steelers made no real effort to keep them. As a group their new contracts are a grand total of $1M against the cap more compared to last year. The Steelers had plenty of cap space but decided it wasn't worth $1M to keep them, which is my point. They weren't considered worth keeping and the FO decided they were better off spending their limited draft picks on new WRs. The Steelers, by their actions, or maybe inaction, basically said they were at or below replacement level. I would contend that is the definition of mediocre.

He had like 5 in one game lol

Drops are the worst official stat in football. Do you know how hard it is to get a drop officially recorded? It has to be a perfect pass, uncontested from any defender, and other criteria needs met for the stat recorders to consider it an official drop.

He still improved with the drops in 2021, compared to where he was at in 2020.

No, he didn't have five in one game. If you want to get into a discussion of statistics, try actually doing so accurately. Drops are definitely still a concern. He seemed to let it get in his head again late last season, but for most of 2021, he wasn't dropping passes at all and he never dropped more than two or three in a game.

I would offer him the $10m deal that JuJu got.

So he dropped 15 instead of 30 like the year before. Big whoop.

Look, if a receiver can't catch the ball consistently, he's worthless. That is the #1 job is to catch the damn ball. Imagine making excuses for a QB who can't throw or a HB that can't run. Why, because they put up numbers from sheer volume. Yeah DJ is fast and runs good routes, but it's all moot if his hands are stone. We can't rely on him to be our #1 WR.

He did not drop 30 passes in 2020. He did not drop 15 last season. The concern is that after being very reliable most of the season, he faltered and had some key drops late in the season and in the playoff game. You can make your case without presenting false statistics. It wasn't the volume of drops over the course of the season that was troubling. He wasn't even the worst guy on the team in that area. The issue was multiple drops in multiple games late in the season. Even two drops in a game can be a killer if they come in key situations.

I get that, but between the draft and the possibility of signing a player still available or one that gets cut I think it will work out fine.

Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn State. Looks good to me in Round 1.... if they can't get Jordan Davis.

I think Ditson will be gone, but I watched him a lot last year and he would be a good pickup

JuJu didn't really get 10 million though, he's probably getting 3 million or less, the rest is tied up in incentives.

I know, I guess I should have used green font? I don't see an eyeroll smilie. IIRC 2 million is based on making the AFC championship which isn't a stretch for KC but sure is for the Steelers.

Ramon Foster made a good point WRT signing Mathieu. If they spend too much on the Defense and limit who they can get on the offense, it won't matter much if the offense is going 3 and out every series and leaving the D on the field.

I say it is going to be business as usual, the Steelers will go defense in the 1st and WR in the 2nd.

Plaxico Burress was drafted after the 6-10, 1999 team with sh!toads of holes. Colbert's first draft after Donahue.

Yes You are correct:thumbs_up:, but remember We had at that time been desperately trying 2 find a number 1 WR...especially after the swing and MISS with Troy Edward....poor Hines had 2 watch all this go on. LoL. What I'm trying 2 say is I don't think We are as desperate at the position now........Though I would bet We take one by the 4th at least.

2020 Check. Defense=Minka with the 1st round and Claypool in the 2nd round.
2019 Check. Defense=Bush with the 1st pick and Johnson with the 2nd pick.
2018 Check. Defense=Edmunds in the 1st round and Washington in the 2nd round
2017 Check. Defense=Watt in the 1st round and JuJu in the 2nd round.

I think I see a Pattern here.... I am throwing 2021 out the window as that was a gift for Ben's going away season.

So, I say bet your house that the Steelers 2nd pick in this draft will be a WR!

yep - he SUCKED when we needed him most. he had drastically improved.....until late in the year and dropped a crucial pass or 2 in the chiefs playoff game, early....

we need a SPEEDY WR - in Rd 2 or 3, IMO. Grab another late, round 6 or 7. the rest, FA scrubs. We know our 2 primary. this is an important need for sure...

guys will be cut late - in June / July , they will grab patch work guys late and cheap.

Sometimes you can get more than just patchwork

You just don’t want to count on it

Agreed, I also don't think the Steelers need to use a Late pick on a WR, because of the signing of Gunner. Usually you are drafting a WR for his return capabilities in the 5th or 6th round, but I am pretty sure we are set at the return game with Gunner.

I still say the Steelers draft a WR in the 2nd round.
