The coin flip is way too much of a factor in deciding playoff games. The rule is fine for regular season games . But in OT. The coin flip winner won like 10 of last 12 playoff OT games. The QBs and offenses on playoff teams(except ours) are way too good to let a coin flip decide game. For those who say its not a big deal, how come last like 36 OT games, the winner of coin flip took offense except for the one time MT took defense. He is wrong, but that is nothing new.

If your special teams and defense can't set you up for success, you don't deserve to win.

I'm fine with a TD sudden death. Either that, or just play another shortened quarter (like every other sport does). No need to get cute about the rules.

Not to mention the 60 minutes the team had to win the game in regulation.

No, that made sense before Goodell and the owners destroyed defense and special teams the last decade.

Just make our lives ****ing easier. Home team gets the ball in OT first, each team gets a shot at the ball no matter what. End of story.

I swear, these idiots are only smart in the NFL because of morons like us who keep watching it. Nothing more.

If I'm not incorrect here....the game that everyone is complaining about....both teams did get a shot at having the ball.

    When does it end, though?

Let's say the home team scores a TD, then the away team scores a TD. Does the home team win if they score another TD on their next drive? Shouldn't the away team get a chance to match their TD? If not, aren't we just in the same situation we are now? Should the game keep going as long as both teams are scoring TDs?

I like Lolley's idea of letting what happens on the first coin flip determine what the OT possession will be. If you win the first coin flip and defer then you don't get the ball to start OT. If you take the ball then you get the ball to start OT. That way coaches would know who gets the ball first in OT which could influence what happens at the end of regulation.

    Its a 10 minute overtime.

Who ever wins the coin flip goes down and scores a TD, the opposing team gets the ball and has a chance to match that TD. If they don't score the TD the game is over. If they do score the TD they play it till the end of the overtime period. Could be a tie or a team could win it outright.

I feel that is fair and simple.

Not going to worry what Popcorn said its probably a word salad.

Special teams and the defense have been hampered by rules changes over the years. They kick off from the 40 to prevent kickoff returns, they changed the formation for blocking and prevent blocks from the side and if it LOOKS devastating, it's a penalty. Do we need to rehash how handcuffed the defense is nowadays?
The offenses are too proficient and the rules favor them to increase points and excitement in the game. When an offense can move the ball from the 35 yard line in 30 seconds without any timeouts, that's a problem
I don't see why you just don't give each offense a possession........

I agree with Tomlin on this one. If I was going to make a change, the only change I would make would be for each team to possess the ball at least once, even after a TD. But I don't think the system is broken as it is. If you want to win an OT game eventually you have to stop someone. Same is true even in college.
