Worst QB case... for the rest of the AFC Central

I understand the pessimism at the Steelers QB situation, since Rudolph still needs to improve to be a decent starter, and the other QBs in the division have had success. But when people post that they are absolutely sure that the other teams are going to pull away for the next 2 or 5 years, I think there are possible (although not certain) outcomes that aren't so bleak for the Steelers.

Mayfield - went from people touting him as a franchise QB 2 years ago, to who should replace him now. If the Browns have another underperforming season, I think he will start throwing teammates under the bus. Eventually he would learn not to piss off the OL protecting him. (Even when the Steelers OL was getting him killed early in his career, Ben knew to have their backs.)

Jackson - every year he has taken more sacks, even this past year when he missed 5 games. Add in the hits from running the ball, and the abuse catches up to him. Like RGIII, the wear and tear takes away his elite foot speed, and his glory days are behind him.

Burrow - is averaging 3 sacks per game played. Is he as durable as Ben was? I could see an Andrew Luck-type career, some great games mixed with games struggling through lingering injuries.

You forgot to mention that the Oilers haven't had a quality QB since Warren Moon. :lolol:

Just messing with you on the AFC Central. My Dad is in his 70s and when we talk Steelers he still calls it the Central too.

I agree with the premise of your post. I think both the Ravens and Browns will be looking for new QBs in the very near future. Mayfield will have a short leash in 2022 and the Ravens are finding out that winning consistently with a running quarterback that has accuracy issues is difficult.

Burrow and Chase on the other hand are set up to give the North fits for the foreseeable future

 How did I not notice that? Thanks for the correction.
(I should probably stop looking at stats from older seasons for a while.)

If they give Burrow more protection, then yes.
50+ sacks every season is going to catch up with him, if that continues.

I'm also curious if the Bengals do as well with a tougher schedule, compared to last season's last-place-divisional schedule.

All I know is I can't possibly survive another Bradshaw thru Roethlisberger era. I'm just too old and my health isn't as good as it used to be. Malone dang near killed me and Rudolph somewhat reminds me of him already. The Steelers better get an elite QB soon or we will be AFC North cellar dwellers for quite a while.

Yah, the AFC Central should be tough. Jacksonville just joined. Bengals stink, Browns are dealing with this potential move. I am just worried the Steelers aren't going to be able to sign key free agents. The Oilers are the Oilers. Wait, what year is this?

We can be viable with an average QB, but we have to build the team around them very well. Joe Flacco was super successful in Baltimore, Ryan Tannehill has been deep in the playoffs a few times, Garroppolo has been to the Super Bowl and AFCCG in SF. If you have an excellent defense, solid OL, and some quality playmakers, then you aren't going to be cellar dwellers. You can actually be a good team that competes for titles. We just need to find a quality option that can win with a good defense.

I had an old NFL Century Division pennant that I gave to my son. The Century Division existed from 1967 to 1969. Teams in it were the unlikely combination of the Steelers, the Browns, the Giants, the Saints and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Both teams of the time the Steelers had hellish times with.

McNair, Eddie George, Frank Wycheck, Mason, they kicked our butts a lot a times

Brunell, and Fred Taylor, man they took it too us a few times.

If it’s like the AFC Central last time the Bengals made the super bowl then they will be high scoring but unlucky next year, make the playoffs the year after, then take 15 odd years to get back there.

    I’ll take that!

And at that time less teams got into the playoffs, so winning your division meant more.
