He's lucky that he's not suspended for life. Baseball threw the book at Pete Rose let's see what the NFL does with Ridley.

WTF... "I couldn't even watch football at that point" At what point and Why couldn't he?

This answered my question on what he was betting on. He was away from the team and wasn't allowed to attend games.
"The activity took place during a five-day period in late November 2021 while Ridley was not with the team and was away from the club's facility on the non-football illness list."

I didn't realize it was illegal for players to bet on games in the NFL. After all, what is fantasy football? You're kind of betting on individuals within a game.
They should be checking refs before players, IMO.

He stepped away from the game for mental health reasons. Took a leave of absence from the team.

I just can’t wrap my head around the thought process of risking millions for a 2k bet.

When your done try wrapping your head around the hypocrisy surrounding a business that for years thrived on illegal gambling while forcing its owners to divest of their own gambling interests and then turns around and fully embraced sports betting and legal gambling to the point of pushing it at every opportunity. Where do they draw the line, hey NFL fans get in on FOXSPORTS live betting, hey players sign up to pimp your own choice of legal sports betting and fill your pockets but don't you dare make a bet or we will suspend you and drag you through the mud so people don't see how tainted the shield really is.

Eh, I get why they don’t want players gambling same as why baseball doesn’t want it. Shoeless Joe and the others were never reinstated and still not eligible for the HOF. Same as Rose.

That NFL has thrown its hat into the ring doesn’t change anything, players could have always bet on games. It’s just a dumb thing for them to do.

to me its like when the league fined Harrison for hits on McCoy and Massaqud and then turned around and sold pictures of it on the website. In this case they are pushing sports betting on us but saying these guys can't because it will lead to cheating which is you believe the players and coaches already happens.

Paul Hornung, Art Schlicter and Alex Karas are the three I'm aware of. I get the comments about the NFL's hypocrisy. I would not be surprised if a third or even half of the NFL rank and file players bet big money on NFL games every week, whether through illegal bookies or through legit avenues by using straw men to place their bets for them.

Now that you bring it up, I vaguely remember Mongo being in trouble for betting. I, stupidly, thought that rule had been rescinde since the NFL is all about online gambling and fantasy leagues. It never dawned on me that the players weren't allowed to participate. This guy wasn't even playing at the time, right? Not as if he could have altered the outcome......
