Amazingly, the Steelers defense had 0 sacks. I'm guessing Tarkenton's tackle in the end zone was the result of a fumbled snap or hand-off, thus not a pass play. The defense pitched a shutout, but allowed 123 total yards. The Bears only allowed 119 total yards is Super Bowl XX, had a defensive TD, seven sacks, and a safety.

You’ve got the yards reversed. The Steelers gave up 119, and the Bears 123. The Steelers played against a better offense, and shut it out. The Vikings scored on a blocked punt. The Bears defense was great, but that Patriots team that they faced wasn’t as strong relative to the rest of the league at that time as Tarkenton’s Vikings were. I’d certainly give the Bears 2nd place though. Maybe the 2013 Seahawks 3rd.

Greatest Defensive Performance? Hmm.... interesting question for certain. Hard to argue against the Super Bowl IX performance though the Legion Of Boom's dismantling of the Manning led Broncos would be a worthy second. Keyword here is worthy... not close.

I prefer the 85 Bears. I am not old enough to have seen/remember the 70's steelers. The 85 Bears gave up 10 points however the FG happened because the offense fumbled the ball the defense backed up the Patriots yet they still got a FG. The TD I feel only happened because the shutout was no longer in play and the HC let everyone that was wearing a jersey PLAY not just stand on the sideline (which I thought was cool). If the fumble didn't happen then I believe its a shutout. On a side note the Bears didnt allow a point in the playoff games heading into the super bowl. They were a Walter Peyton fumble away from having ZERO points given up in the entire post season.

I looked up the longest pass play by the patriots in super bowl XX a few years ago it didnt even go for a first down. They had very few passes that were not a dump off to a RB/TE. The WR's did next to nothing.
