How would you fix this off season to getting a ring?

I'm curious to see what the most liked post will be for the easiest fix for getting us a ring next year

We have a lot in cap space to make moves. So you can either
    - Draft a late first round pick.
    1 big name FA.
    1 medium name FA.

    OR
    - trade a pick for a NFL established player
    - 1 medium name FA.

There's not going to be a ring this year. You could get Aaron Rodgers, or any other QB out there and there won't be a ring. The O line is not good. It will need to be rebuilt. The defensive line and linebackers and defensive backs needs to be fixed. I'm not sure there is any way at all to get this team to the SB next year let alone win it.

Regardless what the Steeler do this off season the only ring the players will get is if they get married. At the present moment we are #27 or 28 in the way to early power rankings.

Steelers would never do what the Rams did. Generally the Steelers don't go after FA's. IMO the Steelers first two picks will be an O-line man and a QB. Not sure of the order. Steelers have had some great centers in the past, I'd love to find a quality center.

Step 1, get Jeff Gillooly on speed dial…

Seriously though, the only way I can see to have a chance at competing for a ring in 2022 is to ante up for Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers. I don’t want to do either, and I’d be shocked if the team went that direction. We need a QB to get over the hump. I don’t consider Garappalo or any of the free agent QBs as being Super Bowl caliber without having a team built around them that has superior talent at other positions than the other AFC contenders. We don’t have the resources to build that caliber of a roster for 2022 unless several of our players take surprisingly huge steps forward next year.

I think that we should realistically be planning to build a SB contender for 2024, 2023 at the earliest.

Brandon schereff - OG is my big name
Marcus Mariota - QB is my medium name
Devonte Wyatt - DT draft pick

I understand we need a CB. But I've always seen ofy you make a DL stout, then it can make a meh CB look great. I think Wyatt is a beast and I think he will be there for our pick.

Same can be said with an OL being stout. However you still need a QB who knows how to throw. So that's why I made those 2 free agent calls.

And I do think in rounds 2 and 3 you can pick up CB/WR that can start vs any of the positions above..... So the only thing that could hurt us is a need for a LB and center.

I almost asked the question for winning a ring in 2023. But that would take to long.

I don't see us going for a trade for Wilson or Rodgers, due to our OL needing to be improved greatly. So you would be limiting yourself with a meh name for guard. And we just seen how getting a meh OL player worked out for us last year.

    No such thing

And making any attempt to do so would be a major waste of long term assets

A lot of teams do. We aren’t special. Cincinnati has more than we do, and they are a better team to begin with. We will not catch up with our cap space, we will get farther behind.

And Cincinnati is a far more attractive free agent destination than here. I can't believe I just said that. But there are rumors that Gronk may want to go there. And we'd have to deal with that douche twice a year.

I think you are missing something. How much cap money is left after signing their own guys? I realize there are ways to make the cap work regardless, but I don't think they make a major splash in FA unless there is a A list guy like Farrior, or similar in respective positions. This team is not like the Pat's a year ago. Many players who sat out the previous year came back, they spent a boat load in FA and a,QB fell to them. How far they go with him will be determined, but the Steelers are imho a year below that development stage. One huge FA period is not going to make them a SB contender, nor is one draft.

It's funny that the Pat McAfee show was just covering this topic due to the Bengals SB run. Well known fact that the Bengals under Browns ownership are one of the cheapest organizations in the league. No scouting department, no indoor practice facility even making fun of Brown at the Superbowl wearing what could of been an advertiser's trucker hat and getting mad that the lights were on at the stadium in Cincy during the SB. They were mediocre on the OL, their defense was suspect and coaching kinda meh but were 5 minutes from the franchises 1st title. So a lot of fans will throw that argument out there.

Can the Steelers enter the offseason the same way they always do and have a legit shot? Sure they can. I think the core and youth movement are there, going to need to see the moves as we get towards April but the biggest question mark will be is are they returning to Steeler football of the last 30 years or opting for finding a QB who is a leader that can shoulder the team and carry them to the top.

My choice, return to tough hard-nosed defense and rock to the Naj. Tell Mason or Dobbs, don't do anything stupid we will play high percentage low risk plays and possess the ball

Given where they are starting from I don’t think there is any realistic path to the Super Bowl next year. There are just too many holes to fix in one offseason.

Just spitballing, it may be possible if:

    • they get a legit QB from somewhere
    • OLine improves with guys like Green, Dotson and Moore taking big steps forward
    • Chase Claypool fulfils his potential and Diontae has a career year along with Muth
    • Najee has a huge year like Jonathan Taylor in 2021, I think Najee has that kind of potential
    • Defence supplemented with some good offseason moves along with getting Tuitt and Alualu back
    • Devin Bush had a bounce back year
    • Team as a whole stays mostly healthy

Not really a rumor when the player says it to reporters.

Steelers aren't getting a ring next year. It would be a huge shock if they could overcome all their deficiencies to make that happen. I might have a better chance of hitting the Powerball.

I will happily eat crow for breakfast, lunch and dinner if they hold up that Lombardi next year.

Oh he actually said that? Ugh. Meanwhile Brady convinced him to unretire in the first place so you would think he would go away with him. Yet he still wants to keep going. Idk.

It is going to take more than a year and more than three players
to get this team in playoff caliber mode. Many holes to fill, now with the right
Fa and draft picks we could make some noise in2023

bring back killebrew as the SS. shouldn't cost that much.
bring back witherspoon at corner. may cost a little more but not break the bank.
bring back adams at the interior d-line. see above.
get rid of banner, schobert, tuitt. saves some money.
draft a QB, ILB, corner. WR. we have the picks to do this.
bring in an OT free agent. a decent one that can play both sides.
    fill in around this.

witherspoon, sutton moved to slot corner, draft a corner at least by round 3. top ILB round 2, QB round 1, WR round 3 or 4 whatever extra pick we get there. norwood still here as a backup.

i think we can be better with a solid offensive tackle added to the right side, moore in year two on the left, either green or leglue or dotson start at guard. hassenauer or a later round center or a free agent center brought in. see what leglue can do there if green and dotson start at guard. haeg stays as a swing backup at tackle. pridgeon and green in reserve on the PS. both guard/ tackle capable. new o-line coach.

sims and miller get a chance to contribute, I think they can help this unit. We may then use that draft pick on a center.

SB contender with no QB? There is no way to know when we contend until we actually get a QB

They are a couple of years away even if they get or already have a capable QB.

I’m curious as to how trading a pick for a FA works in Option 2. Who does the pick go to if the player we’re acquiring is a free agent? And how is it beneficial to do such a thing?
