He's the best of that list in your sig. I prefer that Willis become some other team's mistake and I don't think there is any chance Stingley makes it to the Steelers, but Johnson could fall that far and he would be a solid pick.

He didn't play football until his senior year in HS. Johnson's main sport was believe it or not was golf as he was an outstanding HS golfer.
I see some scouting reports have him rated only behind Linderbaum as the best interior lineman in the draft.

 

What I said before when was the last time they took a player in the first round from a non Power 5 conference?

Just because they don't do it often doesn't mean they shouldn't do it. In fact, given the success they have had with players from those conferences, it would be stupid to ignore them in the first round.

 

He is my third best rated at the moment. Only Green and Linderbaum are ahead of him. Regardless... he is one hell of an athletic guard that would open up the Steelers Rushing Game quite a bit.

 

CBS sports mock draft now has the Steelers taking Zion in the first round.

 

So it's just precautionary???

 

Zion Johnson just shot up the draft board with todays performance. He was first out of all the lineman with 32 reps in the bench and was 5th in the broad jump.

 

Many NCAA Schools enforce this rule; big time programs like Alabama and Ohio State being the biggest of the big in regards to this. Now, whether or not those braces actually prevent injury.. I cannot say for certain. I do know they must be cumbersome to wear; custom fit or otherwise.



Perhaps that is why so many College Offensive Lineman ditch them all together by the time they reach the NFL; never to see them again.

 

I personally will not be mad in the slightest if he is the pick at 20. Again, this is all dependent on FA but Zion's overall skillset and capabilities are simply too difficult to ignore at this point.

Tape showcased that athletic ability on display. Just a matter of confirmation at the combine. That said, the NFL REALLY NEEDS to do away with 40 times for Interior Lineman as a whole. Does not make much sense to me personally. 10 yard split times should be more of the focus as that is when the Lineman's TTC (Time to Contact) takes place.

 

i watch their takeoff in the 40 more then anything, then look to the 10 yard split. do they come out low? do they stand up and run first? quite telling really. especially for the interior guys. wasted movement.

 

Usually the take off tells the whole 40 time. You can almost see who will run it fast from the take off.

 

that's why a lot of them hire track guys to coach them for it.
