The listing videos for each of their home that they recently sold. BR (Chardonnay) sold in 2019 for $2.2M and AB (Silver Pines) sold in 2021 for $1.4M. Both guys LOST a ton of dough during their ownership. BR paid the same in 06 as he sold for, but completely renovated the house and did expansive upgrades outside. AB did a lot of exterior upgrades and sold for 500k less than he paid. BRs annual taxes were an eye popping $72,000 while ABs were "only" $46,000.

I remember seeing Big Ben's house and seeing those annual property taxes. That is a ton even for a person who may make a ton of money a year.
Hell 72K a year is a decent income per year for a lot of people.

But now you see why people want to build (or buy) homes in Butler county (Cranberry Twp, PA) or out in Westmoreland county.

Property taxes in Allegheny County are just nuts....

I hear ya. We moved from Allegheny to Washington 18 years ago. Living space tripled, taxes less than doubled. And it's gotten worse.
And you've got to crack that 72K nut every year. That's baseline. And you haven't even heated or cooled the house yet.
But I guess if you're worth over $100M it really doesn't matter. Over 30 years that's only 3% of your net worth. It's hard for regular people to comprehend though.

That's the real reason AB sold.

I was thinking of Kauai. My son lived there for 15 years and told me how expensive it is. I’ve only been to the big island. You could probably get something in Hilo for under that price.

It takes me approximately 3 hours to cut my lawn if I also weed eat and I don't mind a bit. My son and I can knock it out in about 2 hours working together. The trick is trying to keep the grass clippings out of my pond, landscaping and swimming pool. Having the closest neighbors over a football field away is a bonus even though I really like them all.

Now I'm old and the sons are out on their own. It would take me 3 days instead of 3 hours.:smiley1::cool:

I have a 61 inch zero turn and a 54 inch that my son runs and we cut 3+ acres of rolling hills. Years ago I had one mower that broke. I came home from work on a 90+ degree day and my wife and children were taking turns push mowing this massive yard in the spring growing season. I admit, I'm crazy sometimes but that's just stupid.

Most hateful, and unfulfilling job in the world outside of making a bed. I have almost 3 acres of mowing, and I freaking hate it. If it was up 2 Me I'd never cut it.

My advice. Put on a baseball game and go pitch by pitch. Listening to the Pirates though might not be helpful. I listen to the Reds, still somewhat competitive. About the 8th inning it's a wrap.

A thread hijacked by a discussion about lawn mowing and what lawn tractors people have. Well, that’s new.

I used to have an acre+ with steep slopes that I loved doing with a 21” Toro, except that if I couldn’t find time to do it twice per week it would clog up and choke on the long clippings. I find mowing relaxing when I can just go through it non stop. When I have to stop 20-30 times to unclog a 21” push mower that’s past due for a blade sharpening, it sucks.

I now have different house with 1.4 acres and a lawn service. They blast through it in 20 minutes with (2) 61” Scags and a third guy weed whacking. I miss mowing it myself sometimes.

Hahahaha I told my wife yesterday we’d keep an eye on this thread as we’re possibly headed to Allegheny or Washington county and was interested in the seeming taxes or cost of living talk the first few comments appeared to be headed towards.

    Well that got derailed.
