Colbert leaving after the draft I heard he was going to stay until the Steelers had their next franchise quarterback I guess that’s Dee wayne Haskins

Along with Rudolph, it will be nice to see what Canada can do with a fair chance.

It makes me wonder if the Steelers were tryjng to force Ben to quit last off season. Art II publicly says that Ben needed to a pay cut. They fire his buddy Fichner and replace him with an OC who runs an offense Ben wouldn’t like.

Were they hoping Ben would find those conditions distasteful and retire? But instead he accepted.

Maybe, but with the paycut I think his cap hit was about the same as if he was cut. So they tried to kick the tires one more time. Maybe a good theory that just failed badly. Ditto the year before.

Then you tell him no we don't want you back and don't sign him. That's all they had to do. As far as we know AR2 was the biggest proponent of bringing Ben back.

Sorta right as he will still be involved with the team just in a different capacity.

He was still under contract and it was the reason he needed to retire. The single year cap hit was so large that no one is calling to inquire about a trade, cutting him still cost a heck of a lot of cash, retirement was the only solution that would allow the room with the cap before the wonder that is voidable years came into play.

You don’t throw away that many years of information in just one poof moment. This is why another post about the Steelers releasing Colbert before the draft was so foolish. You get every piece of information you can. I know firsthand what happens when a key employee retires and leaves. I retired last September. I’m still contacted regularly, and I help gladly.

Steelers did the same thing with Chuck Knox.

Florio was saying that he had thought when Tepper bought the Panthers that they might make Kevin an offer to join their organization not GM as they have one but something. Then it came back to he was stepping away but still would be involved which is why they were doing a year to year deal.

I found nothing to get excited about with Canada as OC.
Aren't coaches expected to lift up mediocre talent to better talent?
Do you feel Matt Canada did this? New OC, OL, strength coach, DC, ST
ILB, and finally head coach. Clean sweep,

Not sure if you’d call the current lineup a fair chance. There’d better be some big time off-season moves.

They got a RB and 2 Ol last year. I anticipate something similar this year. Plus, last year we were cap challenged. This year we have room to acquire a few bodies.

I think the concerning part is we don’t know what Canada wants this offense to be. Did he and Ben compromise to build an offense that didn’t let him show his strengths? Does he want a qb under center? Was he limited by the o-line play?Does he want a full back in the offense? I have no idea, but the offense we have seen over the last two years isn’t the answer.

    And there you have it.

Don't expect major changes. The standard is the standard. And that standard is mediocrity.

Yep, and now the biggest two reasons for those "winning seasons" are leaving. I've said for years Art is the problem and now it's on full display.

If we're going to strive for mediocrity then why not keep Keith Butler as well? With no major changes and handing the baton to Mason Rudolph I expect this team to be about 4 or 5 wins. Defense cannot continue to be the depended upon every game.

Oh' well. Maybe we will finally get a decent draft pick.
