You put too much stock in past occurrences. Bens retiring and depending on who replaces him a ground game could be needed.

But also, a highly ranked ground game isn’t even important so you could be right if that’s not their focus. What is important is to be able to run when you need to and the combination of Harris and a good oline will accomplish that very easily.

We had a great RB in Bell and a great OL from 2014-2016. No running game. 16th 16th 14th

Canada is all about the run game. Many seasons he had a 1:2 pass:run ratio in college. This isn't his team though it is Tomlin's.

Only way I see a boost to the running game is with a running QB otherwise it's short passes and WR screens like the Pats used to do with Welker, Amendola, Edelman etc.

They had prime Ben then, they could be playing with Rudolph next season. He’ll need a ground game and also his strength is a vertical game, he’s not good at small ball.

If they were at least 16th that's top half of the league , Ben was still throwing a lot back then with a good WR group.

Yeah, let’s now call for the demise of the one thing left that’s tried and true ages before you even lived. The Steelers and the Rooney family.

Yeah, uh, thanks for playin. Moving on…

2 (Two for the grammar peeps) things: 1. Art Rooney II has as much to prove in the next couple of years as Tomlin and any Steelers QB. 2. I am not trying to be controversial, but if the Steelers were ever sold, which eventually is possible because of inheritance laws, but probably unlikely, my guess is the team would be sold to the richest black person that was interested in buying the team.

Under his watch, ARII has not hired a head coach, GM, or franchise QB, but he has drafted a franchise player (TJ Watt). And he has kept the franchise relevant, even without a championship in eleven years. So he has several firsts coming his way. I do give him credit for the 2004-2010 run, with his dad's wisdom to draft Roethlisberger, but he should shoulder some of the blame for the 2011-2021 shortcomings.

I believe the Rooney's are always going to look for ways to keep the Rooney Rule at the forefront of the league, even if it means not winning championships. And a black majority owner would cement their family's legacy, even though it isn't necessary. I would be fine with a black owner if he is committed to putting the best possible team on the field every year.

I don't want Rooney to be Jerry Jones I want him to be the Chief.
Hire a great coach and great talent scouts , Let them work their magic and then stand back and wait for the commissioner to hand you the trophy.

It's not the Chief you want, but another Dan. The Chief wasn't successful until Dan started running things.

If people truly believe that AR 2 is such a horrific owner, Shahid Kahn and, for that matter, Dan Snyder both would like to have a word with you. Other eager contestants but these two Owners.... truly stick out in a big way.

FA pieces will be needed, we should be able to pick up
some quality players/ position of need from our salary cap windfall and hope
the Steelers hit it out of the ballpark on draft and free agency.

What way of thinking? Addressing multiple areas at once? It was always going to take more than one offseason. Would you prefer them to draft all oline this year and not address anything else and do you think the draft will unfold in a way that allows them to do that? The draft largely dictates who you select.

They will further address it in the draft this year and hopefully bring in a FA as well.

Don’t forget they had a an oline coach that was so lost he was calling other coaches for advice. I’m sure that didn’t help the line develop. Finding the right coach this year is just as important as who they draft and or FA.

They had the RB in the top 5. Most of these other teams are getting contributions from other sources a lot more than the Steelers.

    exactly.

the league has changed - it does not take 10 years to turn an organization around.

Okay, so how many years do you think it will take to fix this team under Tomlin to be a good playoff team?

However long it takes to replace Ben.

That will likely take longer than filling some of the other holes.

Ok, which one of you asked this in Ed’s chat?

Ed, it seems to me that ever since Dan Rooney turned running the team and organization over to Art, the entire organization has regressed. Dan was a football man. Art isn’t. What are your thoughts on this? — Jack Y.

Hmm, what makes you think Art Rooney isn’t a football man? Like his father, he played quarterback in high school and has been around the Steelers all his life. He succeeded his father as president in 2003, and the team went on to play in three Super Bowls and win two. They haven’t had a losing season since 2003. I’d say he’s done a pretty good job.

After 2003, Dan still had influence in telling Cowher to draft Roethlisberger and to hire Tomlin to support the Rooney Rule. Art II has done fine, but he has not had to select a HC, franchise QB, or GM solely on his watch. Art II's legacy will be determined in the next five years.
