Yeah, Tomlin has to be one of the most likeable coaches in the NFL no doubt. And guess what? Loves rap music. His favorite? You guessed it, EPMD.

LoL. Public Enemy didn't always. I know I seen them live. Back in the day. Most of that I can learn on My guitar before the song is even halfway over.

The best music isn't always the most complex.

The Roots' guitarist is named Kirk Douglas. He's pretty good.

Yes he is(he has better stuff outside of them), and Yes it is 2 most players. You know how hard it is 2 listen 2 four notes played through a whole song....not even a change of octaves, and maybe...just maybe they turn it around somewhere in the chorus, or a whole freaking album in one key. It's hard. Now songs, and bands that where grandfathered in before in my kid years...I can handle.

When I listen to rap the beat just has to be decent. I mostly care about the lyrics and delivery. Metal is the opposite. I think it's all subjective.

So you don't listen to punk or country or blues? There are some exceptions in blues like Taj Mahal and Buddy Guy but what about John Lee Hooker and Howlin Wolf? You just wouldn't listen?

Lots of those are .....Like I said Grandfathered in. If it is something new like that ....Yeah ....No. LoL.
Now it also can help if its like.....1 Guitar Player plays this simple part, another Guitar player plays a different simple part, bass player plays a whole different simple part....then once it is all played together it doesn't sound so simple. So that works. They don't all have 2 be virtuoso for me 2 listen.
You can't have 1 guitar player playing the exact same simple thing the other is,and the bass player just tracing what they are doing.

I grew up loving hip hop cats like Nas, Wu Tang and such. I don't mind listening for bars, but for the most part that phase in my life is over. I'm familiar with Joyner Lucas, Kendrick Lamar and others, but 40 year old me just doesn't connect with it like 25 year old me did. I like some of the drill scene, but that genre gets monotonous and fast. Drill's best artist get murdered or end up in jail, or the specific artist grows past Drill (Lil Durk or King Vonn).

I find myself listening to 80s Thrash Metal or 90s Groove Metal more than anything.

    Come crawling faster
    Obey your master
    Your life burns faster
    Obey your master
    Master

Master of puppets I'm pulling your strings
Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams
Blinded by me, you can't see a thing
Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
    Master
    Master
Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
    Master
    Master

    Call it a push?

Nas and Wu-Tang are still some of the best rappers (at least Ghost, Rae and Deck). Kool G Rap and Black Thought too. There's been a resurgence but it isn't what it was. Still way better now than 2001-2015 IMO.

What are some groove metal bands you like?

Wu Tangs 36 Chambers and the 1st Cypress Hill record are probably my 2 favorite rap records, still to this day.

I don't think I know any rappers under 35 to be honest.
More of an old school guy

    Bone Thugs
    Do or Die
    Daz Dillinger
    Outkast
    Mob Deep
    etc.
