So, I just got to thinking about this earlier tonight...
Is it encouraging, that they are keeping him on the active roster?
Does that mean his torn calf muscle, may eventually heal enough for him to play near the end of the season/ into the playoffs?
Or, do yinz think they are wasting a roster spot, on a player, who is never gonna be healthy enough to play?
    Myself, I`m not sure.
I know we used our I.R. exemption(that allows the player to return), on DeCastro, so I wouldn`t want to put Troy on the season ending I.R.,
And I can`t really think of anyone we could use to take his place, that would be a signifigant upgrade at their position...
    But...
If this torn calf muscle is gonna keep him from playing, anyhow, should we just sideline him for the year, and bring in a player who could potentially help us? And if so, Who?

I don't think so TROY must have told them he will be ready to go later in the season.....If he and ben can get back healthy we will be instant SB contenders

I don't know if Troy would make us better if he came back... Not sure how much it was the injury, but he didn't look like the Troy of old even before he got hurt. I'm seriously wondering if he is close to being done?

Will Allen is playing pretty good. We have to be careful though because Allen is very injury prone too.

Before the year is out we may be playing with Robert Golden as our starter.

I'm not sure how much of an impact Troy would have (I don't think he has anything to do with making us instant Super Bowl contenders) but I'd love to see him back on the field to see what he has left in the tank.

Troy hasn't been right for about 3 season now and thats because he's had one nagging injury or another. Before that he was typical Troy. I believe if he can get past these injuries he'll be a force again.

I remember reading that he'll be back before the years end (though of course thats barring any setback). So no you do not IR him at this point. And plus if they did IR him...whoever took his spot would probably be inactive a lot so either way whats the difference? haha

And how would you like to pay him? He's probably going to be asking quite a bit and the Steelers even after getting under the cap/cuts/etc...are not going to have a ton of room to sign a high priced guy (let alone re-sign their own).

I miss the days of seeing him jump snap counts and sack the qb in half a second... those were the goods days... Wonder if he will ever be the same?

That`s sort of my point, Era...
I wouldn`t say "for 3 seasons", because last year he didn`t miss much time, and played pretty well,
    but,
Will this latest injury ever heal?!?
A torn calf muscle sounds pretty signifigant, to me, and he has been sacrificing his body since college, to play the way he does...
I guess what I am wondering, is, Can he come back, and do what he used to do? EVER again?
    I would hope so...
But we have let people like Hines go, when we thought he was done(Personally, disagree, I think he could have gone another season or 2)...
But... Is he still on the roster, because the Front Office still has faith in him beyond this year...
Or are they just hoping he can help us if we make it to the playoffs?

This article indicates that it is the same injury that slowed him down at the end of last year. He re-injured it before the Denver game then aggravated it in Denver then again against Philly.

If he had all off season for it to heal and it apparently didn't - I don't see how it could possibly heal enough during the season for him to play again for any meaningful amount of time.

Looks ominous to me. Like a recurring toe injury some of you may remember...

I had a question about this... Baltimore used their 8 week exemption on Thuggs but I also believe that they are using it on RayRay. Is this true? Can a team use more than one eight week exemption in a year? They plan on having him back by the pplayoffs I have heard here in Baltimore.

Allen has been playing 'not bad', I would say, rather than 'pretty good'. In a lot of our games this season, safety has been the key weak spot in the secondary. This is why I was all for putting Golden in, in a "what could get worse?" way/

I am afraid the end is near. Does he have enough games in the league
    to be in the HOF?

i cecked , if we cut troy we have to eat 5 milion of dead money , if we keep him we have to give him 7,5 in 2013 and 8,5 in 2014 , so next year if you cut him we save 2,5 milion in cap , signing byrd with a big sb and low cap hit in the first year is still possible . that's the count just to speak

Thank you Freak, I think we have to explore this route,
Troy does us no good sitting on bench collecting a huge paycheck!

Right, Suggs was activated from the Pup list. Each team can only use the IR exemption for one player.

Ive said it before but TP is finishing out his career just like Bob Sanders did, next years draft has some top senior strong safties in it, big as well 6-2 215 types who can lay the wood, these small frame safties cant hold up well over time so it's time to go bigger at safety, this kid lester at alabama is a senior strong safety at 6-2 215 who I would take in the draft in a heart beat..........
