Why don't you wait until he has (checks watch) one losing season before you say that.

Fair enough. But you'll wait longer for that 17-0 Superbowl season. :lolol:

Cowher couldn’t even win with Cowhers players.

With the exception of Ben they are all Tomlin's players now and Tomlin deserves full credit.

"Cowher's players" last season was 2012.

People only use the "Tomlin won with Cowher's players" trope because the starting QB, HB, TE, top 3 WR, and 10/11 defensive starters were also Cowher's starters. Idiots.

Ignore those morons. No one can even make that argument for any of Tomlin's teams after 2012.

I find the terms "Cowher's players" and "Tomlin's players" interesting. Doesn't the GM have final say on the roster (perhaps with the coach's input)? If I recall, Roethlisberger was not Cowher's choice for the 1st round pick in 2004, so should he be considered one of "Cowher's players"?

Ben went 24-3 in his first two seasons (with at least one of those loses was due to coming back from a knee injury too soon). He had a major concussion with the bike wreck and at least one concussion in the 2006 season. He was afraid to take a hit that season and didn’t get back into the grove until 2007. They were a powerhouse team and they beat the 22-0 Patriots

I hear you. Just because a player was coached for several years and became a veteran under one coach, and stays in the exact same system under the same DC doesn't mean anything. It's all about draft day. Who picked them? That's all that matters not years spent in a very specific system and culture. It's about draft day. That's why Eli Manning will always be a San Diego Charger in my eyes.

Gotta give Mike Tomlin props. Hearing his comments after the game, he actually sounded genuinely appreciative for the effort and growth of these young players and not just some cliche spouting robot. Through all the adversity, injuries, unproven players, declining skills, and subpar coordinators, Tomlin has done a great job to be where he is right now. Now we'll see what happens next week, but I'm happy we didn't see another late season implosion down the stretch (even though it took an improbable sequence of events). I'm one of the many who has been very critical of Tomlin and his seeming inability to prepare and lead these men with discipline. So, I just want to give credit where it's due. Nice job coach.

Why? The Chargers never really wanted him any more than Archie wanted the Chargers. I love that the handful of Charger fans left still hate Manning for "dissing" them......even though he/they were 100% accurate!

Tomlin won with Cowhers players in the same vein as Urban Meyer lost with Doug Marrone’s players. It’s just a silly argument.

Didn't he?! Are you playing devil's advocate? Urban Meyer inherited a 1-15 team... should he have been an immediate contender for a Super Bowl?

I see what you are doing. We are in agreement and you are making my point for me. I'll keep your secret.

If Tomlin went to the Jags next year how long would it take him to win a Super Bowl? 2 years right? Haha. I see what you're doing. :dancing:

Chargers should have kept Brees. Brees is better than Manning. Should be mad about shipping off one of the best QBs ever.

I'd put down Brees as the best Chargers QB ever and then Eli because it's where a player is drafted that defines them not the system they play in or coaching they receive. Brees, Eli, Fouts, Rivers, Humphries in that order. Herbert going to be up behind Brees I think though.

I'm happy as clams that Brees went to N.O. His talent would have been wasted in S.D. Given your definition, Humphries doesn't belong. He was a "rental" from Washington. Don't know who drafted him but, he had one lucky season. Same for the shot-putting Rivers. New York drafted him. Fouts was an arrogant douche, though a hell of a passer.

Oh that's right I forgot Rivers was a NYG and Humphries was of the team that shall not be nicknamed.

Players like Kurt Warner are harder because they weren't drafted so it's like his career never happened. Can't even say he was a Ram player when they never drafted him.

I've heard enough, Talking heads are saying this is Tomlins best coaching in 15 seasons, NO The Steelers backed into the playoff by the skin of the Raiders teeth... Tomlin doesn't have a damn thing todo with why we are in the playoffs

A big part of why we are in the playoffs is the addition of the 7th seed last year. The Steelers first season was 1933 and for the first 86 seasons of its history there was no such thing as a 7th seed but for the last 2 there have been.

I keep telling people no way does Tomlin allow the Raiders to miss that 48 yard FG last night to keep the Steelers from getting that 7th seed- he's too good of a coach.

In the spring of 2020 I said that the 7th seed would benefit Mike Tomlin the most of any coach since Jason Garrett had been fired. And here we are! In the playoffs!

But he would be 100% responsible if we didn't make the playoffs. Got it.

Fans act like Cowher picked all those players on his own, he had a good GM, and the scouts deserve some credit too.

It's the system. I get as frustrated at you at that ridiculous trope but those critics aren't saying that Aaron Smith and Brett Keisel were unparalleled athletes but that they fit a system that required them to be coached extensively. Those people look at the defense which was nearly identical from
2005 to 2008 and say "This was Cowher's defense blah blah" just because that defense had basically been run since 1995. I know. It's ridiculous especially when you look at how Tomlin has been crushing it lately. We are back in the playoffs. Pretty good season!

Considering he's the HC, and they had the worst defense against the run and one of the worst OL, they still managed to get in the playoffs it is one of his best coaching years.

I don't know if I'd go that far. But considering how close this team was to total collapse, to rally like they did - help from other teams or not - that doesn't happen by luck.

Everyone here knows I have my issues with certain Tomlin tendencies. But you cannot say he let this team quit. Xs and Os might have been lacking, but heart wasn't.
