Losing ben hurts us a lot but it doesn't kill us. The ravens have a very weak rush defense and will most lekily keep eight in the box with lefty in there. Lefty does throw a nice deep ball and should get some shots downfield. I also think we can run on them even with eight in the box. Ed reed will want nothing to do with dwyer or redman. Hopefully we get brown back this week.o

i think you are under estimating Ed Reed. the dude is a beast and one of the best safties the game has ever seen.

if Ben cannot play than it hurts this team a ton. they are 0-4 against the Ravens when Ben doesnt play. they are 9-5 without Ben and 4 of the 5 loses are against the Ravens.

if they put 8 in the box, which they probably will, its going to be a long night. the oline and the running game has looked better, but im not sure they have reached the point where they can impose thier will on a defense even when the defense knows the run is coming.

Byron better get the ball out quick if he is the starter. i still think Batch should get the start. he can get the ball out faster and his game suits Haleys offense much better than Lefty.

I'd be a little more optimistic if we could get WASHER involved some also.

I'm just holding my breath on everything right now. I know we are probably going to be without Ben this game, but I'm not saying anything until I know for sure. But we almost beat them with Dennis Dixon a few years back so anything is possible. If we are without Ben, hopefully our D steps up big, we will have to create turnovers and have to maybe even get a defensive TD!

The key will be turnovers. I know that sounds cliche, but if Lefty can avoid throwing picks, the game will stay close. Any given Sunday, any given Sunday.

I was looking forward to this game... right up until Ben was on his way to the hospital yesterday.

i frequent a ravens site and ed reeds tackling is a running joke and with his hurt shoulder he will shy away from contact.

So if Reed gets front loaded, tumbled and knocked downey by amana named Dwyer - will they have to call out the Maytag repairman? Of course 30 years ago we'd have to interject a "Speed Queen" somewhere in this story but that connotation today would trigger a League investigation.

Me too....I think Clark will play which is good news. Not having Ben and AB is a killer for our offense.

A bit worried about Clark though. Second concussion this season. If he isn't sharp and playing a good game the Ravens will be running the score on US.
And if we end up in a shoot out w/out Ben and AB we are done.

I didn't see the Ravens/Chiefs game, but Charles ran wild on them. I can't imagine it was because they didn't want to put 8 in the box for fear the Chiefs passing attack would kill them. So the Chiefs were able to impose their will on the ground. I suspect we can run on them no matter what, but if the scoring gets out of hand on the other side its going to fall on Lefty. Not a situation we can afford.

The key to winning sunday, is our defense against their offense.

1.Shut Ray Rice down, keep Torrey Smith from making a big play, and try to make Flacco beat you.
2.On offense we must run the ball with success, keep Lefty's pass attempts 25 or under.
3.A big special teams play, or defensive touchdown will go a long way.

Lucky for us the 1st game is the home game, and the Ravens haven't been a great road team, but they are nearly unbeatable at home.

Ravens fans on their message board are worried about winning this game even without Ben, Ed Reed is playing hurt and isnt the same threat he was, their nose tackle is playing hurt and their defense gave up 422 yards to the raiders. The cowboys ran the ball against them for 220 yards a couple of weeks ago, and flacco gets real unconfortable in the pocket if he is pressured and getting touched. They dont have the same Oline they had last year and they have key starters out on IR, so this rats team is very beatable and their fans know it, problem is most steeler fans dont know it, as for me I expect us to win this game with a big time running game and high percentage passing plays plus some big shots down the field, and Lebeau knows how to rattle flacco and I expect he will do just that, the intensity for this game will be a thousand times higher than it was against KC by all the coaches and our players, so I like where we are at for this one, with homefield advantage and first place on the line, I expect to see us flying high like we was in the skins game when we shut RG 3 down....

Good post. While we are in woe is me mode, be reminded that this Ravens team has not played up to its 7-2 record. In fact, they could easily be 5-4, or worse. If you thought Jamaal Charles looked good against us, then you should have seen him against the Ravens. Even Brandon Weeden looked against them, and the Raiders rolled up over 400 yards against them on the road last week. They are a very mediocre team on the road.

I think Lefty will have a good game and it will be a very inspiring win.

I've been saying all season that this Ravens team is smoke and mirrors. I was very confident that we would beat them with Ben, now it gets more dicey but I still think we can do it.

Didn't look that way in either game last year. In fact...over the past few seasons I have felt like Flacco seemed to be building a lot of confidence against the Steelers and was getting uncomfortably close to having their number. As inconsistent as he can be at times...he always plays the Steelers as if it is the Super Bowl. When we play them Flacco does not strike me as a guy that has any confidence issues no matter what has or is happening at any point of the game, which is what allowed them to mount their game winning drive at Heinz field last year.

I don't disagree with this. As in any game it comes down to which teams show up. Both of these teams have been inconsistent. Can we exploit their weaknesses or will they exploit ours? Is their efficient and dangerous offense going to show up or will they be off? If we end up in a shoot out can our D finally make some splash plays to neutralize it a bit and give the Offense a chance?

I think both teams can move the ball and put points up. Us being down what I would argue are the two best offensive players is a real killer.

We can if we get pressure on Flacco. Without it...I think we are in for a longgggg day.

2 concussions in 3 weeks, I don't think we'll see him on the field Sunday.
