Doubt that even entered into Harbaugh's mind. He just wanted to stick it to the Raiders... and he did.

Yep. This isn't Saturday morning peewee soccer where everyone gets a juicebox and fruit rollup after the game. Kick your opponent's ass until they quit or the clock reads 00:00

I don't think it's classless as much as it's plain stupid. Why show that play when you don't have to? Why would you not run that play the following week against...oh, I don't know...a team you're competing with for the division title? In fact, it's not just stupid, it's arrogant.

I will say this about Harbaugh. He is one of the guys who goes over and meets troops overseas. Cowher does it. Jeff Fisher does it. Tom Coughlin does it. I don't like Harbaugh as a coach but I LOVE the fact that he goes over and hangs with and supports our troops. And if he was consciously running up the score for the military I give him MAD PROPS for that. EVEN if he were doing it against us. There are more important things than football and it's the American way to dominate your competition. Remember the Dream Team in Barcelona? I know it might not make me popular to take this position but I gotta be honest with what I think. I don't hate anybody for disagreeing. I just disagree and like you anyway. I mean after all you've got a right to be wrong.

When Nebraska or Miami or Oklahoma or (fill in you favorite NCAAF power house) decides to run up the score on Wofford or Gardiner Webb, I have a problem with it. One side is at a clear disadvantage, it's an unbalanced competition.

But in the NFL, running up the score doesn't bother me at all. Both sides have the same salary constraints, both sides participate in the same draft. If one team decides to rub it in, fine. If the other side doesn't like it, all they have to do is stop it. I know lots of Steeler fans complained when NE was doing this routinely in 2007-8, and now with the Ravens last week. But I wonder what the reaction would have been had the Steelers done something similar vs KC had they been up 35-10 in the 4thQ. My quess is that it would be completely rationalized: Offense needs to make a statement. Todd Haley deserved revenge for the shabby way KC treated him. Need to give Baltimore something to think about.

Do people really dislike teams running up the score? Or do they just dislike teams that they dislike running up the score? It's probably the latter.

Just a guess... if someone like the Browns ran up the score on an opponent (other than the Steelers) I think that a majority of people on this board would be fine with it or even applaud it.

I thought I heard someone say last night that Mike Tomlin had explicitly said there would be no running up the score period. But maybe I'm wrong about that. I'm fine with doing it and actually enjoy watching a lopsided game sometimes but I don't think Tomlin would feel that way.

    :this!:

The timing is stupid as hell. You may put something in the heads of future opponents, but why show it when you're already blowing a team out?

Same crap with Pittsburgh last year. You pull it out in a game you were already dominating and then talk about it being something you saw in film study.

Save that for a game when it's a key down and it really counts. Not a blow out.

Well, I'll give Tomlin credit, he is true to his word. He didn't run up the score in any of the games vs the weak sisters (Oak, Tn, KC).

Harbaugh is a punk and a liar, I get so sick of seeing his lil smirk on his face, and hearing his lies when he talks, there is no doubt in my mind that we wont win this game sunday, :threaten:

They are when combined with statements (about Harbaugh) that are completely unrelated.
