    Why is it that James Washington was seldom used is a mystery to me.

    I’m going with the fact he isn’t very good?

    I guess so but I always thought that James had so much more to offer the team. If anything, after JuJu went down, some were stating that Washington should be moved to the slot; a notion that I did not agree with at all. Given his playing time within the slot at Notre Dame, Chase Claypool should have been the better option; James Washington being that Z Receiver. That said, who is to say that Washington had been in the teams doghouse?!

    No one will knows for certain. I am certain of this; a statement I believe we can both agree on. This team needs to find a true deep threat come 2022. I truly thought Chase was it but his inconsistency in not only contested catches but ability to stack opposing CBs outside the numbers was but only a microcosm of problems for a very disappointing, if not disheartening, Sophomore Season.

    Not giving up on him but adding some competition would not hurt either.

    I think there is a good chance that James becomes a solid #2 receiver for another team. I don’t think this offence allowed him to show what he could do which is a huge pity.

    He got ample opportunity to show what he can't do, which is consistently get separation from defensive backs. The guy can't get open. This idea that he hasn't had playing time simply isn't true. He just doesn't do much with it.

    He had a nice enough season in 2019 when he got an opportunity to start but I understand that he has disappointed since. I still wonder if there is a team and OC out there that can get some decent production from him. We will see, he certainly isn’t coming back to the Steelers anyway

    What a poor draft class that was

    Even if Edmunds is brought back... much of that draft class is gone.

    More than likely. Another interesting note is that Teryl Austin is assisting Tomlin in the finale as well.

    Is Teryl Austin the new DC?! Keep in mind he is the Senior Defensive Assist to the team; closest aspect towards an assistant DC as one can get.

    He may be a great coach, but should they hire a new DC, I prefer someone outside the org. Preferably a former HC and DC.

    Vic Fangio but he is likely a Jaguar at this point per reports. Brian Flores could be on his way out soon should those John Harbaugh rumors be true. Beyond those two, hard to find a former HC and DC rolled into one.

    Others though are the following;

    Jim Leonard: The Wisconsin Badgers DC would be an entertaining one as he had offers from Green Bay a year ago.

    Kris Richard. Leads a stingy New Orleans Secondary Defense. Among the outside hires... I would not mind him as he and Austin could create a scary back end for the team.

    Eric Washington: Currently the Bills DL Coach but has done extremely well during his tenure there.

    All in all though, Teryl Austin does have former DC experience if nothing else and was an outsourced hire as well. Given how much of a corner (pun intended) our Defensive Backfield has turned under his guidance, I am willing to give it a shot at the very least.
