I heard that he was cleared to play and was ready. Tomlin made a statement about packages or something to that effect. I was wondering if anyone had heard hines say anything? I love hines, but he can run his mouth and say things that might be better left unsaid.

Probably. Imagine spending your whole life doing something that you are one of the best at, and suddenly father time prevents you from doing it like you used to, and no matter how hard you try, you just can't get the job done like you used to. It's got to be hard for an athlete once he realizes that he's on borrowed time.

He's a team player though, he'll never complain publicly.

You mean like a couple of years ago when he made some comments bashing ben??

I do expect a different approach from him right now that he's mentoring our young WRs.
I think he's aware that his clock is ticking, and the newcomers have done a terrific job. Hope that he understands his new role on the team and, after he retires we can get him involved on the team. He's still reliable, but hasn't been healthy / open when needed.

My wife and I met him this summer outside of a Target store, and he was really nice to everyone there. Even he seemed to be on a hurry, he waited until the last guy got his picture & autograph (it was the day that the lockout was finally over). There were about 20 people on the line to meet him. We got some pictures and an autograph on our terrible towels!
We congratulated him for winning dancing with the stars and mi wife told him not to retire, since she's a big fan of Bettis & Ward and had a hard time when Bettis decided to retire. Hines joked that he was going to be partner of Bettis and start a dancing academy on The Bus's restaurant (Grille 36), but later he said that he'd like to play at least couple more years of football. Something like "if someone wants me retired, he'll need to wait at least 2 more years".

I think Hines may have a problem getting to 1,000 receptions by the end of the year now. He is currently at 981 and would need to average better than 3 per game over the last 6 games to get there. With the emergence of all the young guys, I'm not sure he can do it.

Here's hoping he does get it. I think they might make an effort to get him there, but it will all depend on the game situations.

I expect him to have a bigger role as the weather gets worse and the "track" plays more to his speed.

It wouldn't surprise me to see his role expand during the playoffs.
