If Matt Canada is let go, I'd love to see someone hired from the Brian Daboll system.

I'd kick the tires on Trubisky too.

We get 2 defensive starters back next year. They’d be reallyyyy stupid to waste that defensive talent with Mason or a fill in type QB. They are gonna go after Rodgers or Wilson. Bet on it.

Maybe they should have traded up in 2019 for Haskins instead of Bush!

Forgot about Trubisky, he had a really up and down time in Chicago, some good mixed with a lot of bad. He is almost certainly better than Mason though, and would seem to have a lot of the qualities that may succeed in Canada’s system.

He’d be quite similar to Mariota in a lot of ways. I’d prefer either of those guys to Brissett

i can relate. my parents lived out in the sticks and you had to drive on a dirt road about a half mile that looked like that to get to their house...lol
i dont have any evidence but im convinced someone that lived near the road dug the holes to make people drive slow so they didnt kick up the dust. one of the neighbors told my mom that one of those people complained about my brother driving too fast . plus i filled in a few of the deeper ones with dirt and a week later the holes were back...lol

I’m not a fan of Matt Canada and I’d be in favour of a bit of a coaching clear-out personally, bringing in proven NFL caliber coaches at OL & OC in particular.

I think they will give Canada another year however, and assuming they do you may as well do what you can to support him. Ben and Canada were never going to be a good match

And Mason still doesn't have any pocket presence, I would still bring Brissett to camp for competition.

Actually it matters how much it would cost. There was a time I thought Brissett could be pretty good. Those days have past. There is a reason a team that traded for Him kept bringing in people 2 take his place.

Brissett is not an NFL caliber QB. The on-field evidence of that is overwhelming. At best he’s a 3rd string emergency QB, but I’d give Dobbs another shot at that role over Brissett.

While I’m on the subject of 3rd string QBs, I wouldn’t mind taking a late round flyer on Bailey Zappe to bring into the QB room for development.

I don't understand what you're trying to say. Could you explain it for me? I'm being serious. Are you saying there wasn't a lot to pick from or something else?

I think he's just a good as some of the other QBs currently under center and playing in the league. He has stepped into his backup role when necessary.

No, we just need a Backup who can fill in and play well enough to win a few games when needed.

And how would they have done that? You can argue about the the players they picked as their number 1s, and even the result. But getting aggressive as you suggest is also trading top present and future draft capital for what is usually a less than 50 return rate. FA would not have been in play either as Cap dollars just were not available.

The point was to to all the people that say the steelers should have tried harder to prepare for the future

those are your choices, that's all of them who do you want? and what would you have had to do to get them?

People act like it's easy to just get a quality starting quarterback in the NFL.. Tell me what team is set up with the next er apparent and line.??

The steelers have a 3rd round backup that they highly valued in Mason and a top 15 1st round pick in Haskins just because the fan base hates them doesn't mean the steelers weren't trying to get somebody ready to replace Ben

The FO was certainly not afraid to trade present and future draft capital for the defense. They traded two firsts, a second, a third, a fifth, and a sixth (I think that's right) for Bush and Fitzgerald. We can argue the relative worth of those two deals, but what can't be argued is that finding Ben's succcessor was certainly not a priority and it's not like it wasn't foreseeable.

Not that the Steelers are alone in this regard. The Saints didn't have a real good succession plan either. The Giants drafted Eli's successor but it hasn't worked very well. The Chargers did likewise and it looks pretty good.

The only team that seems to do it right is the Packers. They drafted Rodgers while Favre was still playing and Love while Rodgers is still on top. No telling how Love will turn out, but they planned for and invested in it. Oh yeah, and they are the NFC leaders right now.
