Damn! RIP John. He was a hell of a personality, and an amazing ambassador for the game. Great coach too.

I really liked the guy. Loved his commentary on football. He had a good run.

Many of us grew up watching him coach the Raiders as they battled the Steelers in the 70s.

I hope John Madden is now in heaven and the first thing God says to him is:

"the ball never hit the ground."

Grew up on Madden and Summerall. I miss their relaxed, conversational style. Best regards to Mrs. Madden and the rest of his family.

I loved how he would say BOOM and BAM when diagraming blocks and pass completions. I also will always remember how he absolutely hated a pass completion "for none yards". RIP Madden and old school football!

As much as a Rival that he was in the 70's and his whole view of how the Immaculate Reception occurred, as much as a joy that it was to the Steelers and fans, he lived with the opposite of it.

He was never bias or had hatred toward the Steelers with his broadcasting, even though the Immaculate Reception moment and talk would often happen in games he would broadcast with us playing.

But he was a true ambassador to the game of Football and the NFL. I would say anybody under the age of 50 who played any the Madden video games learned a bunch of plays, formations, routes etc. due to how accurate that game was with a playbook even in the very early days of the early and mid 90's and it just grew over the years.

What Arnold Palmer was to the game of golf.

    John Madden was to football.

I watched the All Madden documentary it was done extremely well and I'd highly suggest any football fan to watch it.

Somewhere up there John Madden is sitting with Pat Sumerall looking down on us while circling every blimp he can find with his telestrator.
