With the Steelers trend of hiring within, it makes me wonder how MT got the HC job with Wiz and Grimm around. I can't figure out what the Rooney's are doing before, now, or for the future.

we used PS and UDFA's on the line for several years. munchak made lemonade out of lemons while here. AV, foster, feiler. two are still starters in the league.

that lemonade was soft. They were decent at pass protection, but if you needed a yard or two they weren’t going to get it for you.

Yeah, I hated it when we lost Munch. I knew we were in for a downturn. Still, I believe the Steelers should do better than among the worst in the league. I contend that is at least partially due to coaching. Many offensive linemen say they prefer to run block. I can't say for certain, but I believe that is likely true for many of them. If that is true, then why can't the Steeler offensive linemen open more lanes for the running backs than they seem to?

Noll and Cowher weren't hires from within either.

That's the point, they do for other coaching positions but not HC. It doesn't matter since this isn't a factor for another decade or two.

there have been a few but to sustain that takes some doing. how many times have we gone against a team with newly added linemen only to get beat by them? the most recent i cen remember was the chargers with 3-4 guys off the street a year or two ago and beat us. the chiefs last year had backups everywhere on the line and made the super bowl but it ended up being they're downfall. i do get what you are saying though. munch did well with not a lot to work with. we can look no further then MT and colbert for letting it get to this point.

You have to hire from within when you can’t get outsiders to come in

I guess this means we'll be drafting Oregon o-linemen in the future due to the connection

    Good career move.

Why be a position coach for a team that doesn't invest in the position you coach?

He was never an offensive coordinator so he coached the offensive line and then turned them over to the coordinator who installed the offense. So, indirectly, he was associated with the Falcon SB debacle but difficult to blame him for not running the ball since he didn't call the plays. He gave the coordinator the ability to call running plays, the fact that he didn't is the coordinator's fault.

Klemm is going to Oregon immediately. Steelers granted him release from his contract.

Good riddance, the oline never improved though out the season under him, see if they need a secondary coach. And send Tomlin with him

Weird for a coordinator to leave mid-season. I fear our OL play will suffer due to losing our OL coach.
