Harvin is worse than Berry

Those stats don't exist. And even if they did, are you claiming that the Steelers have been such an offensive juggernaut this year that the punts Harvin has had have been deep in opponent's territory and that's why his punt average is low?

Also, there is a stat that accounts for that...it's "punts inside the 20". If a punter is truly working with a short field he should have a higher percentage of punts downed inside the 20.

We just witnessed a team from top to bottom completely implode for 2/3's of a game in a must win situation and you want to argue 3 yards difference in punting average from the last guy to the new one. That's like arguing that N. Korea just nuked Israel but what are the Kardashians up to today.

It's not so much 3 yards, it's the fact we spent a draft pick in a draft where we didn't have many picks on a punter who is below average. Every draft pick matters --- sure it was a 7th rounder but AB was a 6th round pick. Had we kept Berry who is better than Harvin anyway, we could have drafted a player who actually would make the team better....like OL, DL, ILB, etc

Punter is the least of this team's worries. The O-line and D-line are ten times worse than the punter.

 

Yes, Harvin sucks. Yes, punter is a low priority. So the question is why did we spend a draft pick on a position where 31 other teams in the league get a free agent?

I had just heard about this as well.

I'm sure he doesn't want any pity, but the kid is still a rookie trying to settle into the longest season he's ever played in away from home as well.

These guys are human after all. We're hailing Boswell now too and he sucked the season after he went to the Pro-Bowl over Tucker (people were saying he got paid and quit).

There are 33 players who have punted 25 or more times this year. Of those 33, Harvin is:

31st in average punting distance at 43.3 yards.

32nd in net average of 38.1 yards.

1st in the NFL in punts out of bounds with 14. Only one other punter is in double digits with 10.

Agree. We are not losing games because of the punter. Steelers are losing games because they are getting pushed around in the trenches.

OK, I'll agree somewhat. We are not losing games just because of the punter. But if the punter is not helping us win games, then he is.....well, lets say that he is just not helping, I guess. Overall, ST's didn't shine very brightly except Boz saving the day. JMO>

 

I suppose it comes with the territory, but that would be rough as a father hearing your boy get booed like that. Highsmith's dad was two rows behind me and he was beaming with pride. Thankfully he didn't have to endure that BS.

 

He is a rookie, yes, but in my 30+ years of watching this team he is by far the worst I have seen.

I remember Cowher had no patience for punters. He wouldn't allow mistakes. He probably would have been replaced after week 4.

I have said before, he gets a mulligan this year, but next year he needs to perform.
