How does the Steelers pay scale match up with the rest of the league? The reason I ask is if we are not competitive with pay then we’re in trouble. We can’t count on the draft only and getting someone rookies, we need to go after guys that have been in the league at least 2 years.

Say what? We are always up against the cap. We just made TJ Watt the highest paid defensive player in the league and the most guaranteed money we’ve ever given to a player.

There are numerous reasons the Steelers are struggling. Lack of funding is not one of them.

When a drunk from Wisconsin advises some drying out, you know you've tipped a few.

If @SteelersFanIrl shows up we may have to go full scale intervention.

Looks like he posted this a few hours after the game ended and may have kept the beer coming, which is understandable with the showing given by our team. Hard to tell who was playing, us or the Clowns of old. I do feel his pain and I try not to post anything after posting a .08 BAC to allow my limited brain cells time to readjust and my emotions to calm down from what I saw. There should be a color font (purple, red, or maybe clear) designating that when seen it indicates the poster posted something when PWI (Posting While Intoxicated). JK

They pay players, but not the coaching staff outside of Tomlin. Smallest staff in the league, not sure which of these coordinator would be snapped up if fired tomorrow.

Next HC needs to hire experienced coordinators and not turn his nose up at analytics.

That doesn't hold water. Remember when we had Haley, Munchak, and LeBeau? All former head coaches. They weren't working for peanuts. Admittedly our current coaching staff sucks bad.

Big contracts are a big part of why we are in this mess.

Right, that was years ago. I'm talking about now. And even back in 2013 it was the smallest staff in the league.

I here all these comments on a thread that I posted about Steelers pay plan, yeah it was me. And I’m told they have lots of money, well if we do why are we in this position today. Why are we keeping a coach that can’t coach or for that matter why keep any of the coaches, then we have one RB that is mediocre and the backups on the bench because there not to good same situations with the QB backups. Someone in management needs to say enough is enough and get serious about how there money is being spent.

Asides from Arians and LeBeau, I don’t recall any of the recent coaches getting snapped up to fill high level positions. Certainly nothing like the Cowher years when it seemed like teams were poaching our coaches annually

1 dollar per tackle and -1 dollar for missed tackles.

    We'd make millions.

I think we are 10 million under the cap right now. Shame we didn't keep Nelson.

I look for the Steelers to bring in a big name Defensive Coordinator next year, to save Tomlin's Job.

I posted this on another thread...The narrative that Nelson is good, is wrong... Actually, the last 2 year years...There have only been a handful of DB's that were ranked WORSE than Nelson!

I don't have access to the full website, but does this mean Nelson is currently ranked as the 7th Best CB in the league this year?

Nelson currently has an "A" grade for CB.

They didn't have that 10 million at the time when Nelson was released.

    Does that 10 million rollover?

I thought I read somewhere about unused cap space from the previous year. If so, I guess they just paid Ben his 10 million that they allowed him to rollover into next year when they resigned him.

Any unused cap dollars roll over. Part of the CBA agreement to ensure the players actually receive the agreed upon share of team revenue. This year it's 48.8%, up from 48.0% last year. Once all revenue has been calculated and applied to the teams, 48.8% of it becomes the team's base salary cap. Unused cap dollars from the previous league year are then applied.

You're correct with the amount Ben will account for next year, the way it works is a little more complex. Basically, they had to reduce his 2021 cap hit, which was originally $40MM. $19MM of that was base salary, which can be converted to a prorated bonus over the duration of the contract. So Ben took a $5MM pay cut, and the team knocked his salary down to the vet minimum, converting the remaining $12.925MM to a bonus and added four void years to the end of his contract.

The bonus carries a $2.585MM annual cap number, but all four void years trigger a few days after the Super Bowl. Voila, $10.34MM against the 2022 cap.
