AR2 actually has a position in the front office. That's meddling. Colbert didn't want Ben back, Art meddled and said resign him. I give a Tomlin a lot of crap, but I strongly believe that his hands are tied when it comes to people he's allowed to hire and fire.

Seriously, Butler has been a bad hire for that position from the beginning. But we have to keep stupid promises that he would be the guy when Lebeau was out.

Lol it's not ridiculous. It's widely reported that Art lobbied to bring back Ben. Colbert wanted to move on. Reporters get stuff wrong yeah, but this has been practically confirmed.

Lol. Dude not talking about now. They carried our team last season . In fact they were among the best defenses in the league. We started the season looking good. After injuries the unit fell apart and is now a disaster.

When was the offense good? Hint… the guy Tomlin fired for Fichtner had a good offense.

    A) Did any of those other teams that fired black coaches have a rule with their family name attached to it?
    B) What does that have to do with this year?
    C) Perceived doesn't mean actually - 4 years and counting since a playoff win. Second longest tenured in the NFL and longest without a Super Bowl.

So if they're not firing him and his results don't stand out as above the line, what is the reason?

There's plenty of evidence to support this line of thinking:

    a) Did not Dan Rooney overrule Cowher and make them draft Ben?
    b) Didn't MT say that Art has the final say on draft picks?
    c) Wasn't one of the conditions the Rooneys put on Tomlin upon hiring was that he had to retain Lebeau?"
    d) Wasn't Art quoted as saying "It was time for a change", when asked about Arians' firing.

Look, I'm not saying these are bad things either, it's his team. As Tomlin one said, "He's the boss." It's his money and perogative. He may not be Snyder/Jones meddling, but if you don't think he has his hand in football operations, you're being naive. IMO.

Because in a previous post it said racists, with an "s". If the issue was with a single poster, it would have said racist. Personally, I don't care about his race. Fire Tomlin and hire another minority for all I care. This, IMO, is about Tomlin not doing a good job recently and IMO one reason for the Rooney's not wanting to make a change. Like I said, his seat isn't even remotely warm, which is stunning.

Prediction....Steelers will continue to suck this year, and flame out again...

After the year... Rooney: " This is not acceptable/ this is not Steelers Football, blah, blah, blah...We will address/ rectify our shortcomings...

    * Try to appease the Fans who will be angry....Then, Do nothing...Just like the last 2 years...last in the League in rushing...Rooney: " This is not Steelers Football, and it WILL be addressed, and not happen again.........

    And nothing will happen............ Again

Rooney, like Tomlin...Thinks we are all stupid with the tough TALK, and and the good ole..."WE ARE THE STEELERS AND WE WON'T STAND FOR THIS AND IT WILL CHANGE"...rah rah rah

    But is doesn't though

Really not sure why you're choosing to die in this hill. It comes down to this. If wins > losses in regular season and butts are in the seats, then that's good enough. In ownership's mind it's not worth the risk to look elsewhere. Call it extreme conservatism.

That's probably closer to the truth, but they ran other guys out (BA, Haley). If that's the case and it's a cheap thing, maybe the fans need to send him a message he'd understand and see some empty seats.

Started out good, then fizzled....Just like Tomlin teams always do...Got progressively worse until....Well, we all know what happened it the playoff game!

That may help. But Steelers fans will still show up. Season tickets are still widely sought after. I would say Art ran Arians out and Ben ran Haley out.

The defense is a great example of what happens when you make big personnel mistakes . We made big mistakes on back ups. The defense fell apart after Alulua went down. Bush should not be starting but we had no one else . They actually think Spillane could do it? We lost Hilton and Nelson and miss judged Sutton and Pierre. Minkah isn’t healthy and no depth. We traded Ingram and made a mistake with Highsmith. The defense is running out practice squad guys now and its a disaster.

this team was poorly built from the start.

An owner making some decisions isn’t meddling, it’s called running your business.

Yup - and this is a reason to consider moving on there also. But when people say "just wait until they get A/B/C back and they'll be good" - well, they got Watt and MF back and it made no difference. If they're not good enough, then send Colbert packing. I think it's both, the talent has eroded but it doesn't appear the coaches are getting much from what is there as witnessed by 4 years collapsing after being around the coaches for the season.

Fair enough - then the standard isn't winning (at a high level). Might as well pack the Lombardi trophies in bubble wrap so they don't get broken, tarnished or stolen. Just make the first page in the team program so people know what they buying into. Stop beer sales at Heinz field too, too risky to have someone drive drunk or get hammered and fall down stairs. Let's really get conservative, if that is the standard.

Absolutely - the owner gets to make the final decision. The graveyards of business (not just football) are littered with owners who made bad decisions and ran their business right into the ground too.

The guy with the great OL and Ben, AB, and Bell in their primes had a good offense?

    Stop the presses.

Tomlin should’ve never been re-up’d this last time. The Rooney’s don’t have the nads to fire him. What happened to “the standard is the standard”? The national media treat him like he’s Vince Lombardi because he’s never had a losing season ….like that matters. That only matters if you live somewhere like Cleveland. Lombardi trophies matter here. We haven’t sniffed Super Bowl relevance since Tomlin won with Cowher’s roster. Tomlin needs to go…Ben needs to go… Canada needs to take his high school offense and go. Thank you for your service but see ya. They are all anchors on moving forward. Unfortunately we need to tank this year to have any hope at an decent replacement for Ben. That shouldn’t be very hard for this heartless team.

What sold me on spineless is when they cut ties with Bruce Arians and the way AR2 tried to spin it as he retired. FFS have the balls to say we've parted ways if you don't want to use the f word. But don't make up some nonsense that retired that you know was gonna get thrown back in your face.
