Despite my recent disappointments with this game, I'm more than likely going to buckle and buy this year's version. Partly because it does look like it improved this year (last year was HORRIBLE). Partly just because the ad with Paul Rudd torturing Ray Lewis almost makes it worth supporting. :D

so is anyone else celebrating Maddenoliday this year? I might need to renew my Live subscription if I have a few guys on the board to play against now and then.

I celebrate it every year. Madden always comes out on or near my birthday, and well I turned 25 yesterday, and someone always seems to buy me the new madden for my bday every year, and this year will be no different. I've already gotten my gamestop giftcard from the parents since madden did not come out on or before my birthday this year

Im going at midnight. I was thinking about organizing and online league if anyone else is interested. Pretty cool this year you can do so you control a whole team or just a position (like everyone is a QB for example).

On PS3 or Live? I'd be interested. The only hurdle would be I often only get to play after 10 pm most days.

Only dabbled a bit tonight. So far, the presentation seems MUCH better. I hate Phil Simms, but even the commentary is pretty good compared to recent versions (although, I'm already tired of hearing how my QB is trying to avoid being sacked a THIRD time).

Passing (leading the receiver and touch passes especially) is better. Defense seems really wonky to me. IOWs, I suck at it. IDK what I'm doing wrong. Finally got tired of it and just rolled a single player career.

I haven't gotten it yet. But then again, I'm still playing Madden 12, and am only on week 4 of Madden moments.

How's rushing in this years version? I liked that it was more balanced in 12, hopefully that continues.

I'd say it's even better with the right sliders.

I find it funny that you see Harrison and Troy running off the field after punts and kickoffs. I also seen 24(Ike) on the sidelines practicing field goals. Smh....

Comparing AB and Wallace, AB is 99 overall and speed is at 94. Wallace is overall at 94 and speed at 99.

I started a single player (no control of team) CC. Brown became a free agent and signed away from the Steelers in year 2. /fail EA, don't you update their contracts?

Playing another game, they showed Troy practicing field goals on the sideline. wtf? I tweeted EA sports and they actually responded back asking what system and what mode.

Anyone playing with a Madden Ultimate Team? I have on that I didn't think was too bad. Overall rating of 78. I tried to play the first week 1 challenge and got absolutely smoked by the Cowboys. i couldn't stop their offense at all, and their defense got me to do 3 and outs every possession. Anyone else played the Cowboys yet?

Ok guys I need an education from those already playing this game.

I don't intend to play online. I like to play single player and control the Steelers through their season. I am confused on what this Connected Season thing is and the concept of choosing to be the coach or a player.
When I am in the game I control the QB then the runner/rcvr, right? On D I control whatever player I switch to? Is that all still in tact?

If you choose a coach career, you control every aspect of the team (and all of the players during a game).

If you choose to play as a single player, you control ONLY that player's entire career.

If you haven't done so yet, hook your 360 up on-line (you won't need a gold account for this) and pop in the game. there's 2 or 3 patches and roster updates you will definitely want.

So I got the game last week. Haven't had a ton of time to play around, but I got into some game action to start getting a feel of it and then went to check things out in starting a Career off-line.
Am I missing something or is there no way to save a game in progress? I went into the first pre-season game and didn't see a way it would save where I am at. That would really blow...I can rarely play through a whole game in one sitting.

Also, do I have to have the Xbox Live subscription to go on and get the updates?

No. You can't save a game in progress. I don't believe you ever could in any Madden. So if you can't devote a ton of time to playing, your options are to play shorter quarters, let the game "sim" large portions of your game, or play as a single player (where any play you're not in is simmed).

You should not need a subscription to get the updates. You will have to set up a subscription if you're new. But that will be for the FREE part (their "silver" subscription). That allows you to get updates. Their "Gold" subscription is the paid one that lets you play on-line.

Until now I was playing Madden 11 on PS2 and you could save at any point in a game and come back to pick up where it was left off.
Man what a kick in the pants for me. Thanks for the info!

I am not sure how I feel about this game. I like it because it is an upgrade in graphics and roster. I like the ease of picking plays.
I am still really bothered by the no save thing. The offensive game play is pretty cool and I feel like I am in control.
Defensive leaves a lot to be desired for me. Its hard to select a player and feel like you can contribute to the play much.
on M11 I could select an OLB and speed rush off the edge and was in complete control of even the direction of the first step. Here it seems like the player (even if selected pre-snap) is going in the direction of the play design. So if ROLB is showing a blitz but angled right toward the QB I can't make him step straight up field first to try to get around the tackle. Then once engaged with the tackle, which seems to ALWAYS happen...I shed the block only to be sucked right back into it magically. Just seems wonky.
I love playing a game controlling the Steelers, but I am not sure how long the enjoyment is going to last on this one.

Try hot-routing the guy you're going to control. A hot routed blitz is an edge blitz rather than an angle. Suction blocks have been part of Madden forever.

Ok, I'll check that out. There is definitely a lot I have not tried yet. Have stuck to the basic controls really.
