How long do you wait until you try someone else at center?

Watching Green do his backward runs into the backfield every week, is almost as bad as watching all his bad snaps shooting out his back end every other play.

Dotson is out for a few weeks, is it time to move Green to guard to find out if he is any better at that position? I don't see Green being the man of the future for the Steelers Center position.

We have both Hassenauer and Finney able to play Center if Green moves to guard.

Green has zero anchor. Casey Hampton would throw him through the back of the endzone if we started at the 20. Unfortunately with how bad our OL is, and how little depth we have due to injury, we have no one better.

Same can be said of many units on this team. Next man up doesn't work well when the next man should be working at Walmart.

As soon as one of the other guys on the roster who can play center is healthy. Maybe Green can be a starting guard in the NFL, but he is a disaster at center.

Probably all season. Anybody with a brain could see this happening. Rookie center and he played 3 games at the position before this year. I made a thread about it but Green was already a HoFer to some.

Green his a rookie who was thrown to the wolves. He had almost no experience there in college. I think he's progressed well. Usually you see a guy play backup while he learns in these cases but the Steelers are using this season to completely reboot the OL

2022, maybe. But they won't - get him in the weight room. He won' be a Pouncey, but very few are. he is smart and athletic, 2/3 of the game

He's strong enough, he's just learning on the job. He needed a Pouncey to teach him for a year as they're almost the same build. He's just not able sometimes to keep them from getting their hands into his chest/neck area. That's when he struggles.

Why stop at Greene? The LT is worse than him.

WTF is going on. I'm tired of reading this BS about the OL. Why are people acting like the OL isn't very young and progressing as the season rolls along? Do you think it's easy on a rookie to play LT? Or C when they'd never played the position? Have some god damn realistic expectations. Calling for them to be replaced is completely idiotic

Agree but wonder why they are put into these situations in the first place. I mean really, how many OL are put into a position that they never really played before and then start them? Have you seen much progressing from the OL so far this season? Maybe they have. I don't know and not sure I can define what progressing means at this point. JMO>

Moore has held his own as a rookie LT. It’s extremely rare for a rookie to start there let alone excel.

Green has definitely improved since week 1. He’s being thrown to the fire because of a lack of options, which is a coaching/GMing issue. But I’m confident he’ll be much improved next year with a year under this belt and an off-season to better tune himself to the position

Expecting a guy drafted in the 3rd round to be a Mansfield, Webster, Dawson, or even Pouncey, is a bit lofty.

Green needs to get stronger, if they guy can do that he can be a decent enough center.

Im not disagreeing that it’s unrealistic to expect them to be all pros but what games are you watching if you think they are improving? If anything they are regressing from where they were a few weeks ago. Last two games against two terrible Ds has been ugly.

The playcalling and gameplans have been bad.

Aside from the last drive last night when the Chargers just brought the house, the OL was decent.

If you expect guys to turn into all-pros as rookies within 9 weeks of play, you have unrealistic expectations

What's really funny is that undoubtedly Humphrey will be brought into this as many feel he should have been the pick. They will throw out PFF rankings and tell you how great he is doing except his NFL path has road bumps too. The Chiefs surrounded their rookie center with expensive veteran linemen in an effort to protect Mahomes who came under fire late in the season last year and who the Bucs focused on making him move whole he was hurting. The Chiefs have struggled in the run game this year especially with CSH out with an injury and have resorted to all manner of gadget plays to get production out of a ground game including jet sweeps, RPO end around and using a banged up Hill in an attempt to take pressure off Mahomes. It has had mixed success.

So then last night's game in which Ben who had Foster for years signaling when to snap the ball on away games had new guys in front of him. Since Dotson was out and Hassenuer started it was Turner who already has issues. Then Hassenuer is hurt and in comes Haeg. The Chargers looked to be using a 3-4 or at least showing 3 Down linemen and 4 LB's plus bringing everyone close to the box. Text book 101 on defending the Steelers this year. Every multiple TE set they ran had them chipping and going out in the pattern which leaves 5 on 7 in run blocking if Najee gets the ball and still 6 on 7 if it's a pass. So add into that Green has to know the play and which guy to block and hope Turner who released Smith right up the gut at Ben 2 weeks before picks the right guy and that Haeg does as well. It's a very difficult situation to throw ppl into.

So I'm with you I dont know what ppl are expecting or how the see it.

I have seen progression, but it's very little at a time, and So When they do screw up it sticks out like a sore thumb.
If it was just one Rookie with the rest vets it wouldn't look so bad, but that's not what ,or how it is.
Also the Vets they are working with aren't exactly All Pros either, or with the one that has been... is not anymore.

Moore is hitting rookie wall big time. He was improving, but it looks like he's tired mentally and physically. Got to realize these kids have played more snaps then they ever have right now. They played a ton of Pre-season snaps and now 10 games with no cupcake teams padding the schedule.

Those last 2 sacks he just brain farted and didn't know what to do.

You know he's pretty strong right? That's one of the reasons they drafted him. He needs that functional strength as a shorter center to keep those hands away from his chest.

Hell, he squatted 700 at Illinois!

Finney will be gone after the season..... Hassenauer started at LG in place of Dotson, and when he went down, they went to joe Haeg, which ended up sinking the entire offense.... Finney went from the Center spot is his to lose to watching a tackle with no guard experience being placed on the field before him...

I am not wanting to get rid of Green, just move him to Guard to see if that is a better fit with Dotson out. Green could be the other Guard opposite Dotson for years to some.

Watching Haeg play guard last night with a healthy BJ Finney on the bench was confusing. Should have brought in Finney to play center and moved Green to guard.
