Did refs make up another rule?

I almost forgot about this one, but on our one kickoff return I forgot who got called for it, but instead of a regular block in the back, it was called a personal foul for something like a blindside hit? It only resulted in like 2.5 yard difference since it was half the distance to the goal, but I've never heard of that penalty...until its called on us

I believe that is the Hines Ward rule. Ward was famous for nailing some guy not paying attention..lol

Stupid rule. My son who plays high school football was watching with me and said, "Dad, that's what they teach us to do."

I think they made up another rule too...if the Giants punt it out of bounds around the Steelers 30, the Steelers take over around the 20. What was that. I thought it was a questionable spot watching it live. Go back and look at it.

Do a Google search on "NFL blindside hit" and you'll see a bunch of fines that have been handed out for it.

    Rule 194.1.3 Section C.

Prior to doing so, a blocker must tap the player on the shoulder and announce "I am about to blindside your ace."

I thought it had to be helmet to helmet for that rule to take effect...? Didn't look like that was the case to me, but it was certainly a lot closer than what they called helmet to helmet earlier in the game. I guess we should give the refs points for being in the correct quadrant of the human body this time. It's an improvement.

To the OP: it was a 14 yard penalty. We got the ball at the 6 instead of the 20. They called half the distance to the goal, so they must have thought he made the hit at the 12, but really it was the 15-16 (and the guy flew backwards beyond the 12). So it was sort of a 9-10 yard penalty, but without it we would have been at the 20, where Rainey was tackled.

I still don't why it was considered blindside and not just a regular block in the back even if it isn't a made up rule?

He didn't hit him in the back, he hit him in the side, which is normally legal.

They just called a blindside hit against the Eagles and it wasn't H2H.

If you get a shot at ear-holing somebody, you take it. That gets you more PT in high school.

    :roflmao:

If its Ryan or Harrison they must tap the player on the shoulder and announce "youre about to get knocked the F out". :roflmao:
