Brown has been fined 10K for the backwards run into the endzone that drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

So is that fine. Freaking absurd. I didn't like the show boating either but 10,000 fine? Asinine. Even a penalty on that is iffy, was Jackson of the Eagles ever fined for when he ran parallel to the goal line holding the ball out and taunting the defense? No he wasn't. Goodell is a dick.

Seriously though, that draws a 10K fine? Think back on the :bs: that started this, pretty much anything TO or Chad Johnson did was WAY more egregious than running backwards. I wonder if a "taste" of those fines doesn't end up in Goodell's pockets.

    A) he didn't hold the ball out as he ran parallel to the GL

    and

    B) It was the last play of the game. The case could easily be made that he wasn't taunting (didn't hold ball out) and was running time off of the clock.

I don't have time to go look up the play, I remember him holding the ball out, did he hold it out behind him before he got the the goal line? And you go right ahead and believe that he wasn't taunting :lolol: The point is, it's an idiotic fine, so was the fine of the clip you showed on Jackson and I can't stand him and I think it was wrong to fine him. Let the refs police the game, a penalty is enough, these fines are getting out of control.

Not much for the showboating but a fine for running backwards???

I would think the possibility of something going wrong whilst doing it is enough, but who am I?

    1. Last play of the game?? It was in the third quarter...
    2. 10k is chicken feed to people making 8 million a year. They have to make the fines relatively large for them to make an impact.
    3. No one peed in my Cheerios. I am having a great day. I am just sick of these people who don't understand what sportsmanship means.

He held the ball up at probably about the 30 yard line for approx 1 second. Nothing about that return was taunting.

You don't think skirting the endzone before crossing the goal line is taunting? Coming from a player like Jackson no less? Give me a break

He simply could have been taking his time to get into the EZ to take as much time as possible off of the clock. There was :13 left when he took the punt. It could actually be argued that it was a smart thing to do. Give the Giants as little time...or no time...to get the ball back.

I've heard the argument, I don't buy it, especially when you take into account who was doing it.

Players do dumb ish and they know they will be fined. I can care less about players being fined because it ain't my money. The real issue is that penalty yards hurt the team.

I understand disagreeing with the premise that taunting should draw a fine. That's just a matter of opinion. Some people think everything should be a fine, some people think nothing should be a fine. No surprise this falls in the gray area. But I don't understand how anyone could claim what Brown did was not taunting. What does he have to do, walk to a microphone and say "I taunt you now"? Showing up your opponent is showing up your opponent. Can anybody say with a straight face that he was just checking to see if someone was catching up to him? It was classless, ugly, and an all-around [badwords:1jgic30t]dick move.[/badwords:1jgic30t] And if you take into account who was doing it instead of just judging the event itself, then just like Desean Jackson, it's even more clear that it's taunting, since Brown has a history of that.

As for Jackson, I believe the run parallel to the end was to make sure that all the time was off the clock. Brandon Stokely did it after that freak catch against the Bengals a couple years ago, and we all knew it was strategy, not taunting. Still not smart on Jackson's play, in my opinion, since I think the risk of getting tackled by a guy he didn't see is higher than the risk the Giants would score on the next kickoff, and plus there were only 8 seconds left when the play started, and probably 5 seconds were gone by the time he fielded the ball, so unless he can run over 50 yards in a zig zag pattern in 3 seconds... But yeah, the ball in the air definitely was taunting, however brief.

AB's move was classless. IMO he deserved the flag. I don't have a problem with the fine as long as they treat the next guy the same.

IMO showboating, yeah, taunting ,no.Je didn't point the ball at a player. If thats the case, all spiking after a td could be called taunting, spiking the ball over the goal post should be taunting, leaping into the stand after a td ,tauting. What he did was the nothing.

Actually jumping into the stands was called showboating and GB had special dispensation for it since it was a tradition.
