Can someone please explain to me why this guy is still on the team? I read Dale Lolley's blog this morning. He hinted that most likely they will place Ta'amu on the active roster and let go of someone else.

What in the world are the Rooneys thinking buy keeping this POS as a Pittsburgh Steeler?..I just don't get it..

people make mistakes. some people make stupid mistakes. driving while drunk is one of the dumbest things a person can do. that being said, one of the best things a person can get is a second chance and it seems as though thats what the Steelers are giving Ta'amu.

in the end the NFL is a business and if the front office thinks this kid can be a star and make their team better they are going to give him another chance. im sure he is being told that if he screws up once more he is gone.

what will he miss in jail time? he has some serious charges against him. it would be diffrernt if it was just a drunk driving accident , hitting a few cars. it's the extra ciricular activity against the cops and the fleeing and whatever else they have him on. he could miss some time i would assume. any lawyers out there with some insite?

What he did was extremely stupid and reckless. Thank god it didn't turn out worse!

That said, we don't know the inside story like those at the top of the organization that are making the decision. Perhaps he has never been in trouble before and presents as the type of kid that decided to make his first slip a real doozy.
Passing the judgement that he is a worthless POS is not for us and frankly is short sighted of the big picture of human nature. I have made some pretty bad mistakes as I would venture to say everyone here has. And I have been given second chances to learn and grow from those mistakes and I am extremely grateful!
I trust and respect whatever decision they make with Ta'amu.

thank you, at least somebody agrees with me...and yes I will pass judgement, because this is not just a DUI...this kid had problems in college too..

The Rooneys need to make a statement and let him go..this is ridiculous...and please don't try to compare this to Ben's off the field problems in Georgia..Ben was never charged.

This isn't a second chance, it is his third and I can't imagine how he is going to avoid jail time. He did much more than make a mistake.

I honestly thought he was going to be another Saunders... released after his suspension was over.

I think some of this will be affected by his behavior now more than at the time of the incident. If he remorseful or just sad he got caught. They are trying to help get him straight. If that doesn't happen, he will be cut.

i'm just pointing out how it will affect the team. this all may not come to trial until after the season. maybe when we were going to get rid of casey. this will put them in a tough spot. possibly. do we then have to draft another? keep casey? get a free agent? i'm not saying don't give him a chance, but it may not be our call. it may also affect other players.

Ever heard of innocent until proven guilty? Instead having a knee jerk reaction don't you think waiting till all the facts are out in the court and the justice system has it's say is best? I hope you never sit on a jury with that attitude!

Why is he a POS? You act like he killed someone or fought some dogs. I m not saying it was right and the smartest thing in the world to do. BUT he is a rookie, who just screwed up, he knows he screwed up, theres a lot of money at stake (yes he shouldve thought of that before he got in the car), and he panicked. Probably has more money now than he had in his whole life, early 20s, yes he was stupid. But who hasnt been that age and not done something stupid?

Now if it happens again, my opinion may change.

what surprise me is how much they care about him , seems is better player than what i thought , i mean if he is still on the roster after driving on 3 cops should have something special :-D

What kind of trouble did he get into at college? I hadn't heard that before.
This is no doubt a tough situation for the Steelers.
He certainly deserves what he gets from the justice system and that will all play itself out. Could help the Steelers decide as well...I guess we will see.

    A 'POS', for this?
    That's hilarious!

If it turns out be chronic, then his NFL career will be quite short.
Everyone on the team seems to be sticking up for him, so, maybe he just can't handle the alcohol, size really doesn't matter here.
Time will tell if he matures.

Aaaaahhhh..., only if we could bring out the skeletons in some of these angelic poster's closets...

This^ I usually try to stay out of these debates because those who may be right now ,may end up being wrong later and vice/versa. I will say though there are many people out there myself included who have done some pretty stupid things. Some have paid the price and some may have gotten lucky or had some sort of divine intervention. All I know is there is a very fine line between things going very wrong or things luckily working out. I feel he deserves another chance to straighten himself out and grow-up. These days are so very different with all the media coverage and technology at every ones fingertips ,nothing goes unnoticed . Not saying these very serious charges should be downplayed in anyway but it makes you wonder, how many serious scenarios like this in the past were covered up and swept under the rug?

I'm not saying I'm an advocate of having trouble makers on the team. I still think having high character guys on the team is the best way to go. Unfortunately many teams willingness to win at all costs and the fact that not a single negative story or infraction no matter how minor doesn't go without notice,(Burfict etc...)it's making it harder and harder to field a team of "good guys". Sometimes these decisions aren't always cut and dry.

Quite some time ago, I will bet even Ravens fans were saying the same thing about Ray Lewis. Lets see how it plays out first. Hopefully he does what it takes to man up and not do stupid things anymore.

I actually have sat on a Jury, and yes you are innocent until proven guilty. But attempting to run over cops is beyond insanity.

This is the SECOND time people.

I hope he get some serious jail time. The team does not need the publicity. What are you so worried about? That we can't replace him?

Who cares? The team can get somebody else...McClendon deserves the job full time and Casey should be backing him up.

This is not the second time he smashed cars and tried to run over cops (OK, he didn't really try to run over cops, they were just in his escape route).

    Why the mountain of hate?

I mean, really, Ben ran over multiple people.
He just did it naked, and without a vehicle.

This! And some people need to relax...and let things run its course and see what happens. The Steelers know what they're doing...trust in them or go cheer for some other team.

Some quotes from Ta'amu's meeting with reporters today:

"I was scared (for my job) but it's good to know that everybody here is behind me and know it was a mistake."

"I was embarrassed to call my family. It was out of my character to do something like that. I promise it will never happen again."

"It was a big mistake, one of the biggest mistakes I have ever made in my life. It won’t happen again."
