Now, after what Dwyer has shown the past two games, the Steelers don't have a decision at starting running back. They can't take the ball back from Dwyer. He's breaking long gains. He's delivering the key run at the end of games. You have to keep feeding the ball to Dwyer until his play tells you otherwise.

    Agreed. Dwyer IS the starter.

I get "ride the hot hand." But Mendenhall was the hot hand the last time we saw him. He offers more in the passing game, has better speed and quickness. Dwyer's emergence is great, but I see no reason not to have a two-headed monster. Put Redman on the bench except for short yardage situations.

Dido..Mendenhall is your starter if he can stay healthy..having Dwyer is your ace in the hole.

right now i think Dwyer fits their oline play better than Mendy. im not taking anything away from Mendy, but the oline isnt the greatest at holding their blocks and Dwyer doesnt hesitate. he makes his decision and goes. Mendy dances to much and behind this oline and we see him getting hit in the backfield way to often.

Mendy dances when there's no hole to go through. In past years, there's been no hole at all and he was getting killed in the backfield half a second after he got the ball. This year, there are gaping holes in the line. Dwyer isn't just creating his own holes, he's running through holes that are there. Mendy will not only run through the same holes Dwyer is running through, but he has the ability to break off much bigger runs. True, Dwyer is breaking tackles very well, but remember, this is the first teams are seeing of him. The more runs he has, the more they will game plan for him. Nobody has been worried about our running game this year. If we keep running like we have been, that will change and teams will focus more on stopping the run.

I believe you start your most talented guys, and Mendenhall is definitely our most talented RB.

people, don't forget what Mendy did his first game back this season, something like 130 yards? I'm personally a Dwyer fan, just love his style, something that's just awesome about seeing a RB dole out punishment to would be tacklers, I love that :herewego:

I agree with some others, keep them both, heck of a tandem :superman:

Looked to me like Dwyer came off the field pointing to his leg. After that, we saw Batch on the field. Any injury news?

Rahtard had a good game against Philly but not sure I would call it the "hot hand". 68 yds rushing, 3 catches, 1 TD is a good day at the office (not counting the fumble). But we have seen Dwyer produce more in his 2 starts than the other RB's have produced in their respective starts this season. I like the idea of both of these guys getting touches if healthy and a lot of it will have to do with the opponent and the score. Dwyer and the OL showed that they have the ability to protect a lead like the old days and if we are up by 3 scores like we were yesterday, then I would expect to see a heavy dose of Dwyer through the A gaps.

Mendenhall is the best when healthy. All three are worth retaining.

I think that we have to keep Dwyer in there. If a backup steps up and plays with passion and drive when given the opportunity, and by all measures outperforms the starter I don't think you can take the job away from him. I don't dispute the fact that Mendy is a more complete back, but I think Dwyer is a better fit for the offense at this juncture. He has resurrected a dead run game out of nowhere. Simply, we are better with him in the game. Let Mendy heal completely, so we have him fresh to take over if needed.

My bad again, maybe it was team rushing that was around 130, could have sworn Mendy had a better day then that. Maybe because up to that game, the running was so anemic that Mendy just looked so much better then the other guys.

I agree. Based on what i have seen of Dwyer i much prefer his running style over mendys. Dwyer seems more like a bruising back, much like Redman. If you get in his running lane he will lower his shoulder and make him pay

Read somewhere that Tomlin commented he had tightness in his quad. Sounds pretty minor and at that point in the game there would have been no reason for him to go back in.
I think he will be good to go this week.

He had 101 total yards counting the catches, and he had at least one big run for about 20 or so called back. Also, his rushing stats were higher and his receiving stats lower for a few days, because his TD was initially ruled a rush. But you're right, it seemed even better than it was because it was the first production we'd seen from a RB all year to that point, and he did it mostly on his own. Dwyer's playing great, but he's also getting help from an OL that is gellin' like Magellin. Not trying to take it away from him, but he didn't look anywhere near as good as Mendy has throughout his career when he wasn't getting the help.
