Roy Jefferson was an excellent receiver. It truly was amazing. The Steelers were putrid
then Dan and the emperor took over and the dynasty begins.

To show how good our defense was back in the day, Cliff Stoudt threw 14 TD's and had 28 picks in his career with the Steelers but still had a winning record of 9-7.

Ted Marchibroda the pride of Franklin,Pa. Marchibroda is the only person to be the Head Coach for both Baltimore teams. Coaching the Colts before their move to Indy, and being the Ravens head coach when the Browns moved to Baltimore.

Here’s a link to a short 2min video from the ‘95 opener in which Tomczak was sacked-to say it mildly.
Other good and bad memories from this game.

Tomczak, forgot all about him and seeing that picture jogged my memory. He had an NFL record for winning his very first 8-9 (??) starts when he was with Da Bears and I remember it broke the record held by a Steeler QB whose name I'll never remember. Then along come another Steeler (Big Ben) who breaks Tomczak's record.

    GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mike Kruczek won his first 6 starts in 1976 when Bradshaw was injured. The Steel Curtain defense gave up only 25 points during those 6 games including 3 shutouts. Kruczek in his career never threw a TD pass and had 8 picks. His 154 career pass attempts without a TD is still an NFL record.

Agree. Another great stat (among many) about how great the defense was in that era is that in 1979 we turned the ball over 52 times in the regular season and still went 12-4 and won the SB.

I specifically recall them being used on turf surfaces...but nowhere else. Could be wrong. I had some crazy cleats called Kodiaks or Grizzlies that had knobbies like you'd see on mud tires in H.S. (playing in NE Ohio you needed them too) I swore by them lol. Playing in college I just used what they gave me and finally realized it wasn't the shoes but what you did with your feet that mattered. But in H.S. they looked so cool lol!

Didn't Marchibroda start the hurry up offense with Kelly & the Bills?

My father is in his late 70’s, has always hard a hard time with any type of change/innovation.

When the hurry up offense started to appear, he would yell angrily, “They’re f__in cheatin!”

Yes, you have a great memory. Sam Wyche installed a version of it in Cincinatti but it was Marchibroda when he was the OC of the Bills that improved and perfected the K-Gun offense.

The only thing I have against Mark Malone is that the Steelers drafted him to replace Bradshaw. Because of that, they passed on Marino.

For all of the laughs about Dick Shiner he did post a perfect QB rating of 158.3 against the Saints when he played for the Falcons. There have only been 2 QB's in NFL history that have had 4 perfect ratings. Ben and Peyton Manning.

I was reading that after Shiner retired from the NFL, he became an assistant high school coach back in his home near Hershey. There has to be a joke in there somewhere about Dick Shiner coaching Hershey High.

Yes poor Dick Shiner, guy had to be picked on a bit.

I actually had a customer once, Richard Head.
    He has since passed away.
Crazier his son was also a customer (and still is) Richard Head II
Could never figure out why the Dad would continue that name to a 2nd generation.
Maybe it was like deal with it kid. LOL .
