So they didn't like the Steelers drafting a RB in round 1, the player they suggested the Steelers should draft was OL Teven Jenkins, well he needs back surgery and could miss this season .

That's fair but who knows how the career goes. Let's hope he is full health soon.

I think what you may be missing is the weight they give positions. A RB does not equal a LT, to them.

I do think there is weight there but it is very analytics based and has ( in season grades ) subjectivity based on their metrics.

I didn't know that Collinsworth owns the company until I watched his A Football Life documentary.

There are guys that swear by everything they say and do and I have a tendency to trust my own opinion on things but do appreciate any information I can read just don't go out of my way to visit their site a lot

PFF is fantasy football related. It should not in any form be taken seriously regarding pro football teams.

    What @jeh1856@jeh1856 stated.

I have not focused on PFF since..... ever really. Regarding Teven Jenkins though, that really is a shame he has to go under the knife. Quite young yes but back injuries are seriously something one does not want to mess with too much or too often.

Within that same vein, PFF awarded Dan Moore Jr just a couple days ago as one of their best rookie standouts from the Pre Season..... so.... what gives on that front?

    Hypocritical if you ask me.

It's just entertainment based BS to get views and attention. That is really all there is to it.

There is value in what they do but I do think they go too far in pushing their own beliefs at times.

The ‘running backs don’t matter’ thing is pretty true for the most part and I would not have selected Harris at 24 either, personally speaking. Najee probably will not get a second contract in Pittsburgh and he will probably be injured a lot during his 4-5 years with the team if history is anything to go by. It was a luxury pick by a team that had many other glaring needs at more important positions. How many years did we see Lev Bell worn down and hurt by the time playoffs came around? Do we honestly believe it’s going to be different with Najee Harris even if he is the player they think he is? A running back just won’t push you over the top in this league.

That said, I totally get why they did it, the Steelers wanted to give their putrid running game a shot in the arm by picking a dynamic player that can get yards after contact etc. I am a big Colbert fan and will give the benefit of the doubt but I can see why others are a little sceptical of that strategy.

Coming back to the topic, above all else PFF value consistent high level play. Devin White from the Bucs is a prime example of why their grades can seem bizarre, he hits hard and makes highlight reel plays that fans go crazy for but he blows assignments and gets destroyed in coverage regularly. PFF will never rate him highly for that reason yet many people have him as one of the best linebackers in the league. His partner Lavonte David is the epitome of solid but unspectacular and they have always had him at the very top of their grades.

They readily admit that their grades are more reliable up front in the trenches than at skill positions where assignments and coverages aren’t always 100% clear to an observer. At the end of the day their grades are a useful guide to player performance and that’s all they are meant to be to the casual fan. They offer much more in depth statistics and analysis to NFL teams and as far as I understand most teams avail of their services in one form or another so I’m not sure we can just dismiss everything they say as BS because it doesn’t align with our own views.

I actually listened to one of their podcasts today and they said that if the OLine and Ben actually get on the same page and can be a top 10 unit the Steelers are legit Super Bowl contenders. There seems to be a narrative that they hate the Steelers but I’m not sure that is the case at all. They are just calling it as they see it, much like us on here, but we are obviously quite positively biased when it comes to the Steelers, apart from @HeinzMustard@HeinzMustard, obviously

While I do not agree with taking a 2nd round talent in round 1 (Jenkins), I'm still not a fan of a round 1 RB........as much as I like Harris.

Pff and their grades can suck it. Even when they list our players as #1. Because it boils down to who is the most talked about player in the NFL. And nothing about what the player actually did.

Even the NFL ratings are a joke. I remember jj Watt got hurt for most the season and ranked high. Jj called them out on it while they interviewed him.

one site, one opinion, thats how i look at it. tevin took a big jump mid predraft. moore stayed pretty well where he was first ranked but what most sites i read said about moore was he would probably need some grooming but had one of the highest ceilings of just about any tackle in the draft. well moore rose a lot faster then many thought and if there is more to come for him to reach that ceiling, we did very well.

Huh? They graded the draft when it happened and then graded the performance of players after they performed. That's consistency, not hypocrisy.

All the PFF haters might want to step outside of your Black and Gold bubbles once in a while to get a more balanced view of the team.

BTW, on the latest PFF podcast, they answered a Steeler email, someone asking what the Steelers' ceiling was if Ben was a top ten graded QB this year. Do you know what "Steeler Hating Pretty Fake Football" said?

They said they would be Super Bowl contenders if that happened, because it probably means the OL in turn had a good year, and they still think our D will be very good even if there are ??? in the secondary. They also think Ben is capable of it.

Kind of the polar opposite of my Doom and Gloom outlook, and I was thrilled to hear it. I mean I could reconsider my belief in PFF's analysis and try to poke holes in their argument and find gotchas where they were wrong in the past to doggedly confirm my biases, but...

...then I'd be like you guys.

Heard that too maddog and referenced it a few posts up.

I listen to a lot of their stuff and have an edge subscription. Their consistent view of the Steelers is that they simply don’t believe in this OLine being able to reach even average level, but they have said on a couple of occasions that if it works out the Steelers will be a damn good team. I think it’s a reasonable point of view.

They have also been killing the Steelers for years for not using play action and other wrinkles that get you cheap and easy yards. This was a huge source of frustration among users here as well, and it’s hopefully going to change now with Canada coming in.

I guess if Najee falls down the stairs, breaks leg and misses the season, then PFF won’t be a joke anymore.

Here in Chicago they hated PFF a couple years back for claiming Trubisky was overrated, now they love them for loving Fields.

If we had taken an O-line man first we never would have got Harris and we needed a top notch (I hope) RB.

I hate PFF for one reason, I despise Chris Collinsworthless. He was so cocky at his one and only SB. I recall him saying how the chicks were all there for the taking. Then when he became a talking head he HATED the Steelers and it showed.

PFF is not a joke. But it's not the end all be all either. The information they provide is useful. Largely the information they provide is at discretion of whomever is breaking down film.

My question is how qualified is each person they use to break down that film? Most people can watch a play, key on a player, and judge what they see. It's a whole other thing to understand how a play was designed, and know what each NFL team expects from a player on a given play. Sometimes it's obvious. Often it is not. For instance the Steelers may grade a player completely different than PFF does on a particular play. The Steelers know what they are looking for. PFF is just guessing.

As for the RB thing. I will say what I always say. NFL starting running back is the 2nd most important position on offense. 2nd only to QB. This notion that you can just turn on a faucet and a starting NFL RB will fall out is a fallacy. Look at Najee. There is a reason he is who his is, and the Benny Snells of the world are who they are. If you have a legit stud at that position your whole offense will be more dynamic. It helps your line run block when you have a guy that can find the correct seem and hit it. It helps your passing game when defenses have to respect the run game at all times. Najee was the correct pick for the Steelers in round 1.

I don't really care what they said. I followed them when they first came out, and I watch closely....maybe unhealthy close, and I'm not talking about just what they say about Steelers...
So it's not Gold color glasses. I discount a lot of what they say about other teams players.

You will never make me believe in a game I watched , player A. Throws for 3 Tds , 0 ints, no fumbles , 322 yards 25- 32 Completion , and runs one in, and Wins the game
Is ranked lower than player B.
Throws for 0 tds, 1 int, 1 fumble, 400 yards, 21- 38 Completion, and loses.
I don't care how You spin it. Yet I have seen them do just that.
    Fake.

The only time I really go on their site is pre-draft or basically when the bowl games are over. They have some good articles on upcoming prospects for the draft. I normally don't read their NFL stuff.

Yeah PFF should have known he would be injured!

But if what you're telling me is that somebody on the internet was wrong, I just can't believe it.
