I know they have not played an official down yet but in theory we are arguably looking at a top 5 front 7 all time.

I hate to acknowledge it but that Ravens front 7 back in the early 2000s may have been in the top 5 all time but the Steelers had some great core 7s.

I think the Steelers (barring injury) are going to be dominating games this year where good luck trying to run effectively side to side and between the tackles.

I hope Tuitt and Heyward are monitored for number of plays to keep them fresh all year.

Yes...I am still chicken little about the DBs minus Minkah and Joe but I am a catastrophic thinker by nature. lol

What are your thoughts on the best front Steeler 7 all time? NFL all time ...any era?

The best front 7 of all time is without a doubt the 70's Steelers. 3 are in the HOF. You can make a strong case for 2 others (LC Greenwood and Andy Russell) and the other 2 (Dwight White and Ernie Holmes) were outstanding players. The 3 in the HOF (Joe Greene, Jack Lambert and Jack Ham) are among the greatest to ever play their position in the NFL.

That Ravens front won them the SB in 2000 or 2001 (memory bad) or maybe it was the great Trent Dilfer at QB. To be fair Trent had a great SB. Not sure but he could be the only QB to win a SB and be released.

I think the Steelers were the last team to beat the Ravens that SB year and the score was something like 7-6 or something like that.

Best Steeler team of all time IMO and proof that injuries do matter.

And yet Captain Dingleberry on another post thinks it would have been a coaching failure that Reggie Harrison couldn’t replace Franco and Rocky.

The 1-4 start had nothing to do with injuries. We can't just forget about that part of the season.

'75 team IMO was their best.

I like our DL and it's possible rotation and OLB's. I am very skeptical of ILB
play even before Devin Bush injury. My friends there really is no
comparison between Dynasty years and any Steeler front seven since then.
As someone mentioned above how many HOF there are from those dynasty years?

Heyward and Tuiit very good, Alualu good, Watt outstanding, Highsmith ( too early to tell ) but early indications good , Bush average , Schobert good...

So overall...A very good front 7

Bush good (maybe great)...Schobert definitely smarter.

I'll go out on a limb here:
    Highsmith > Stud Dupree

For anyone that was old enough to see the Steeler's line of the 70's it was bad ass... The line today doesn't stand a chance compared to that that line... Lets hope we get some top notch players in the next few years to make it a top line again, it is not there yet...

Mean Joe Greene-Dwight White-Ernie Holmes-_L.C. Greenwood- this was a defensive line...

The 78 team was the best they opened up the offense, and went 14-2.

1971 - Voss at DT and Chuck Allen MLB (already had 5 starters that would be a part of Super Bowl dynasty on the front 7.
1972 - Greenwood, Greene, McGee, White, Ham, H. Davis, Russell
    1973 - E. Holmes replaced McGee
    1974 - Lambert replaced H. Davis
    1975 - same
    1976 - same

1977 - Furness replaced Holmes; Toews replaced Russell
    1978 - Banazsak replaced Furness
1979 - Gary Dunn replaced Banazsak, who replaced White at DE; Winston replaced Toews

    1994 - G. Williams, Steed, Seals, K. Greene, C. Brown, Kirkland, Lloyd
    1995 - Buckner replaced G. Williams
1996 - Henry replaces Seals, Gildon replaces Greene, Olsavsky replaces C. Brown, who replaces Lloyd
1997 - N. Harrison replaces Buckner, E. Holmes, replaces Olsavsky, Lloyd replaced C. Brown

2001 - A. Smith, Hampton, von Oelhoffen, Gildon, Holmes, K. Bell, Porter
    2002 - Farrior replaces Holmes
    2003 - same
2004 - Hoke replaces Hampton,Haggans replaces Gildon, Foote replaces Bell
2005 - Hampton is back replacing Hoke
2006 - Keisel replaces von Oelhoffen
    2007 - J. Harrison replaces Porter
    2008 - Woodley replaces Haggans

2009 - Kirschke replaces injured A. Smith; Timmons replaces Foote
    2010 - Hood replaces Kirschke

2016 - Heyward, Hargrove, Tuitt, Chickillo, Shazier, Timmons, Harrison
2017 - Dupree replaces Chickillo, V. Williams replaces Timmons, TJ Watt replaces Harrison
2018 - Bostic replaces Shazier OUCH!
    2019 - Barron replaces Bostic
2020 - Alualu replaces Hargrave, Spillane replaces Bush, who had replaced Barron
2021 - Highsmith replaces Dupree, Schobert replaces Spillane, Bush replaces V. Williams (Jury is still out. Good but has a lot to prove for great).

If you look at eras, this front seven has work to do to become top 5. Really comes down to age of d-line - can they hold up?, Highsmith, and Bush.

By going out on a limb, you mean you will regurgitate the same line you've been pushing for months, which is an extension of your inability to see past early disappointments and recognize how well Dupree played the last two seasons.

Cam and Tuitt are excellent, Steelers just really lack a great nose tackle,

Aaron Smith, Casey Hampton, and Kimo were Good.
Aaron, Casey, and Kiesel were great.
Throw in Farrior, Timmons, Porter then Harrison, Haggans and then Woodley

The mid 90's with Joel Steed, Buckner, and Seals was a decent front
With Lloyd, Greene, Kirkland, and Holmes, all good.

These are all good guys in the 3-4.

But the 4-3 on the 1970's Steel Curtain unreal.
Greene, Holmes, Greenwood, White, all freaks.
    Lambert, Ham. Just crazy.

Mike Wagner who was a safety in the 1970's said the front 7 was so good, there where games where he didn't even get a chance to tackle anybody that was running the ball and he wasn't joking.
