This is not rocket science, but generally speaking, a successful running back is more dependent on timing and blocking execution by the OL and TE's than the raw talent of the RB (e.g. NE's array of small but very effective RBs over the years). Or at least have an OL that is able to block long enough for a savvy RB to spot a hole and blow through it (e.g. Bell and Tomlinson). Exceptions - Barry Sanders and OJ - two of the most exciting RB's to ever watch who just made sheet up on the spot with very little support around them. Other exceptions - Derrick Henry and Jim Brown who just out muscle(d) opponents and have/had deceiving speed for big men. Not sure where Harris will fall in but here's hoping he has the ability to move the chains in critical situations and run out the clock when needed. The number of 100 yd games is overrated IMHO unless coupled with timely gains. Staying healthy will factor in heavily without a doubt. I know, I know - Captain obvious reporting from the sidelines today but now that Pens and Pirates are in the rear view mirror (again) have to look ahead.

My expectations are that he does better than who we've had the past few years running the ball. By how much? Depends on what each of us places on being a #1 pick. But, will our offense allow him to be successful or will it end up like it did the end of last year? If things go as the talking heads are saying how things will change, then good things await and Harris' rookie season can be special.

I think in today's NFL you are correct that 100 yard games are overrated. If a guy has one 50-60 yard run, then gets 40 yards on 15-20 carries the rest of the game is that really impressive? If a guy gets 80 yards on 15 - 20 carries, consistently moves the chains and keeps drives going, might not be a sexy highlight as the 60 yard burner, but helps the D rest, and keeps the O moving.

Yep, it's all about successful run rate.

The latter is exactly what they need from Najee. Last season they often got stuck in third and long, stalled drives, D back on the field within minutes, it was infuriating at times. Hopefully this new look offensive line can be a help rather than a hindrance.

Can’t wait to see Harris on the field in the Black & Gold. Gonna be a beast.

Harris won't do squat unless the new O-line gels and can actually block for running plays. Our previous O-line forgot how to do that after week 10 in 2020.
