The Steeler Way Is Gone

What was once one of our biggest advantages is and has been gone for years. Our once proud culture has been compromised. I believe it started a few years after Tomlin got here and has gotten worse since. Now I think Mike is a good coach most players want to play well for him. However something clearly is missing and in my opinion there are to many I first players on the team. They aren’t buying into team first. It’s all me first. This crap does not exist on Brady’s teams that’s all I’m saying Go Steelers I’ll still watch every game just with no expectations to ever seriously compete for a title.

With all the players who signed elsewhere during the Cowher years, I don’t think they had the team first mentality then either.

I always tell people that we the fans care a hell of a lot more about the city and team then most the players. It's about who pays me the most.

That said, I always said if I was a great MLB player I'd play for the Pirates regardless of the money. Now I wonder since the difference in salary would be huge.

Team loyalty exists only as long as the benefit is mutual. We are now seeing guys like Rodgers and Julio Jones forcing their way out of their teams, where they are loved by fans.

This is not a Steelers issue. And I would add that it is totally unreasonable to expect loyalty to go only one way, look at how Troy, Hines and others were pushed out the door when the team felt it was time to move on.

 

Agreed. It's turned into the Tomlin way. Draft average players from the DMV pipe. Go around saying cliches like "iron sharpens iron" Do the bare minimum to remain employed. Get bounced early in the playoffs. Rinse and repeat. It's become a complete clown show.

Maybe I’m simplifying this, but I loved Pittsburgh while I earned money in Chicago. Then I moved back to Pittsburgh.

I don’t think you could field a competitive team these days with the few players that aren’t “I” first.
