Obviously he's going to get drafted alot higher than that. But I don't think he's going in the Top 3.

He had 3 dreadful games last year. There is a high ceiling there but I just don't think he is going to be able to thread the needle to hit it.

He's mobile but I don't see him being able to be a running threat in the NFL. Also, if he goes to a team with a mediocre to bad Oline, I think he's going to have alot of issues.

Fields isn't the guy I would trade up for to make my franchise QB. Like Lamar Jackson, he is a guy I would take a chance on at the bottom of the 1st round.

I don’t know what to make of Lance, I go back and forth. He could go top 5 or drop out of the first. I love his potential but real small body of work with only one game this year. I think he’s a guy that if you throw into a starting roll, will struggle. He should sit like Mahomes did.

I'm personally convinced he's going to SF at #3.

They didn't trade all those picks to move up to get Mac Jones IMO. And Fields has too much bad tape. I believe SF is betting that Trey Lance can be Josh Allen.

I think Lance actually has a higher ceiling than both Lawrence and Wilson. They are just much safer with a much higher floor.

Him sitting a year or atleast for the first half the season. As you pointed out Mahomes sat for a year and even Lamar Jackson sat for 3/4 of his first season.

NW was dreadful. A couple bad decisions against Indiana, played hurt against Bama without his lead RB. I really, really hope he has a Rodgers like fall to 24.

    He's a bigger Russell Wilson.

Based on what? His career high in attempts was 31. In 17 college games, threw fewer than 30 passes 15 times, fewer than 20 passes 9 times.

His floor is the center of the earth. He's got the biggest potential to get an entire front office fired.

He's closer to Lamar Jackson with a lot less experience. 288 passes thrown in college. Lamar was over 1000.

    Based on physical tools.

Same comparison could be made for Jamarr Chase vs Devonta Smith. Is Chase so far behind Smith because of a lack of reps?

Justin Fields has arguably the biggest boom or bust potential of any player in this class. More so than even Jaelen Phillips.... and his injury history is insane in it of itself. I have said this about Fields already and will again....

Fields will likely either be DeShaun Watson at best or discount Dak Prescott at worst. Either way, that level of uncertainty is immense and sadly, I do not see any binaries for Fields; only spectrums.

Not 2 argue, but you can't compare QBs lack of experience 2 a Wrs.
    IMO

PFF's NFL podcast recently did a 10-minute segment on "one year wonders" and their hit rates in the NFL. Some positions are more successful than others, but QB was on the lower end, along with DL and OL and IIRC, CB.

A QB with 288 career passes is worrisome to me. No way I'd spend a high first on that, even less so if I had to trade up. I'll be stunned if the Niners take Lance. I think he might be the QB to fall.

And physical tools? What about Lance's and Fields' physical tools account for a difference of 29 picks?

Seems you have some unconscious (or conscious) bias at work here. Fields' tools are off the charts.

What does "Discount Dak Prescott" look like? Dak is arguably a top ten QB and the best of his draft class that included the first two picks in the draft.

That kind of sounds like a pretty high floor.

BTW, heard an interesting story on Dak, again on a PFF Podcast, this time with Kurt Warner. Dak was asked how he improved his accuracy in the NFL. He said he wasn't completely comfortable in the zone read offense, because he had to make a lot of quick throws before his feet were set.

Different system in Dallas, he really blossomed as a passer.

i don't think lance or fields should step right into a starting role right off the bat. i think it will ruin them.

If going to SF, however, they'll walk into by far the best environment of the top 3 picked.

If Dak Prescott were a top 10 QB, why is it that the Dallas Cowboys have failed to go beyond the NFC Divisional Game?! For that matter, for all of his production in 2020 before he was injured, the Dallas Cowboys were 1-4. However, that record does not entirely tell the whole picture.

During those five games, Dak Prescott did little in either the first half or until the fourth quarter in Cleveland's case. Sure, that defense did little to help but sustaining drives is Prescott's job. He failed to do so and it required "Hero Ball" to make those scores in the first five games of Dallas' closer than they should have been.

Hero ball. More like prevent D, is what made those games closer.
    Otherwise I agree 100%

The same way you just ranked Dak. Deshaun has never advanced past the divisional round. I can only assume he's not a top 10 QB in your book.
