And yet Sully has had rumors of losing the room, guys chaffing under his system meanwhile the GM who helped assemble those two teams has also striped the cupboards bare and then suddenly resigned. There isn't a magic formula to success or one path either. Look there are things I don't like about Tomlin's tenure here and I mean really don't like but at this point it is what it is.

Steelers are obviously committed to being exceptionally average. Steelers need some new blood in the coaching ranks starting at the top. Tomlin has outlived his use as HC. There will be no chance at another Super Bowl as long as he's HC. Steelers have already squandered an entire decade with superior talent. Looks like the Steelers organization is working on a 3rd decade of mediocrity... 80's, 10's and now the 2020's.

That's fair. And as for the Pens when it's all said and done Sullivan will probably be canned. But the point is they went for it when the time was right and it paid off. No guts, no glory as the saying goes.

Going in to the 2004 draft, had to be a serious low point. Team just had a losing record. Defense couldn’t stop a passing attack. Bettis was aging. Maddox was not the answer. Cowher had only won maybe two playoff games in 6 years. Brady just won the super bowl.

Is this the twilight zone? Is history repeating itself?

Start out 11-0 and lose 2 in a row to the Browns?
The way you lost a Playoff game to the Browns?

The formula is simple. If the regular season win column is greater than equal to the loss column, then you're good for an extension. It's an investment firm, not a sports franchise.

Lol I did block him out. But it was a short ride and they knew soon enough he wasn't right. AR2 would waste 5 years at least before he figured that out.

Well there's your mistake. The Steeler way is to keep rehashing 20, 30 year old ideas and expect something different.

    The year is 2033.

Mike Tomlin is still head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

A yinzer can be heard in the distance...

"He's only winning because he has the kids of Cowher's players!"

I don't watch interviews with AR2. But have any reporters ever had the balls to hit him with what about Tomlin's playoff record?

This almost hints at a QB being picked in the draft.

You gotta b f’n kidding me on this . He’s a joke. What about last year said he deserves this. What happened to he’s going to have to prove it? Guess Art can go to the owners meetings and all of his charity stuff and show how WOKE he is now.

You raise a good point: maybe this portends that BB will also stick around until 2024 and thereby still fulfilling your hopes and desires? :smiley1:

This has nothing to do with regular season vs postsesason, mediocrity vs 'ships, Tomlin's abilities, the Rooney Rule, or whatever else.

It's about one thing: The "Steeler Way". It's organizational and ownership pride, and we all know what cometh after pride. They'd rather be able to say they don't change coaches but every 15-20 years above anything else. That's what this is about.

And I'm a Tomlin fan BTW. I think he's a heckuva coach, but I also think everyone has a sell by date and it might be time for a change.

The Steeler Way is getting in the way.

    110% agree.

I'm going to tread lightly around this subject, but it can't be ignored. The Rooney Rule's legacy won't allow THE STEELERS to remove a black head coach, especially with the current societal de-evolution.

Let me emphatically stress that I'm for hiring the best candidates, regardless of skin color. I had no problem whatsoever with Tomlin being hired as Cowher's replacement. I even liked his wordplay for the first few years. It was refreshing. It was "intelligent." It seemed like he "got it." But all that nonsense wore off pretty quick. And now, we're stuck with it for 3 more long years, and his inability to LEAD men instead of holding their hands.

We should expect no more out of this team than we have gotten in the past. Some wins early in the regular season and choke late in the season and in the playoffs if we make it that far. And mixed into all that will be slow starts and playing down to lesser competition.

Happy days for those of you who live for the regular season and hate the playoffs.
