Loved it when he said, "I'm not fast, but I'm kinda quick."

Back in the days of the old Steelers message board leading up to the game and coming off a terrible losing streak our team faced a must win situation going up against the Chicago Bears. Leading up to that game I mentioned that I wanted to see Bettis absolutely run over Urlacher. Another poster stated "aint happening".

Right after this I posted Happened!

    The rest was history.

    Islay’s

    Great place for ice cream.

And they invented chipped ham. Specifically, chipped, chopped, ham.

Should there ever be any other kind?

I moved away from Pittsburgh in '87 and still get looks when I ask for chipped ham. Islay's was by far the best.

Back to the topic at hand. This Jerome Bettis thread is making me hungry.

Crazy thing about Bettis is that at the end of his career, you knew the end was near, but just hated to see him retire just because of the man, the character, and class that he had. However, most are looking at Ben wishing he would retire. I know the difference is the QB position to the RB position. But, man it was just not the same without him those first few years.

Hope the link works. Bettis was good the entire time he was with the Steelers.

For a period of time, he was pretty much dominant. I remember one time a poor db attempted to take him high and his feet went higher than his head as the inertia of Bettis just kept moving forward like he was barely touched.

Teams would line up with 9 in the box with no respect for the passing game and he'd still pound the ball right at them with 100 yard+ games.

Great player and person I remember reading the headlines when I was 15 that they traded for him. I was pretty stoked and he did not disappoint.

Down south they look at you like you have 3 heads when you ask for chipped ham.

The best you can hope for is to get someone to slice it as thin as possible. Ham Barbeque just isn't the same.

I had that same picture for years. I always wanted one of him and Ray Lewis smacking into each other at full speed and both jumped right back up saying let's play.

It appears the only place you can get the original is online from Penn Mac.

Bus knew and accepted his support role for many years towards the end. He mentored guys who were his “replacements” although we all know there will never be another Bus. For this he was rewarded with a fairytale ending - winning the SB in his hometown.

Ben is too big headed to transfer the torch. For this, he will have a Brett Favre type of ending

If they have DAK imported ham in your area, ask them to chip/shave it for you. It's the only way I can eat deli ham.

Now if I get the big scary girl behind the counter I wuss out and say slice it very thin please and step back reverently. If you were a Seinfeld fan just picture the Soup Nazi episode.
