I would very much like Joseph as depth. Get an ILB before the draft, too.

Now come up with one who isn't a huge downgrade not only from Dupree, but also Highsmith.

 

The guy has mostly been a starter since the Raiders drafted him in the first round. I'm guessing his role would be a bit more than depth. Maybe they play three safeties in the nickel with Fitzpatrick in the slot? (Remember, when he was being drafted, one of the positives on him was the thought that he could play some slot corner.)

 

I am not disputing that he can play slot, but wasn't that one of his complaints in Miami, that he did not like being placed all over the field? Also his tackling skills are less than stellar, would not that be a further negative for a slot corner?

 

I was thinking the same thing, except for being a slot corner might be better for him from time to time. He takes bad angles and tries to spear ball carriers. He's going to get hurt trying to play bigger than he is.

I do like @Formerscribe's thought about Joseph coming in and moving Minkah to slot from time to time. Both Joseph and Fitz are good at freelance and roaming. Would be a nice wrinkle to throw into the mix on occasion.

Show that a few times straight up and then bring one of them on a safety blitz.

 

you want starters? That's not what they are shopping for right now. Sure would love to have starters 6 deep. Any team would. Get real about it. There is little money and they made a good deal.

 

You keep disputing my point that Marsh is a huge downgrade from their first outside linebacker off the bench to start last season, Highsmith. They are settling for a guy what they can afford rather than even a decent backup. Not every guy who keeps getting cut is James Harrison.

 

For now... Highsmith was selected in the 3rd round... What if we get another Highsmith next year!

 

I personally would love the Karl Joseph signing. A sixth Defensive Back option with the ability to play the DIME role as well?! Cost efficient too?!

I didn't say he was going to be a starter someplace else, but he knows a return to the Steelers isn't going to keep him #1 RB, he might have a chance to compete someplace else for a better opportunity.

 

Maybe we can figure a way 2 get more of him , and less of T. Edmunds

His other stints had him as a defensive end in a 4-3. He was a stand up olb part time in his other stints as he learned the position. Again he is better then ola or chickillo. He was a 4th round pick. He's still around in the league for a reason. You make it sound like he's useless. Even you don't believe that. No he's no harrison. Not many were including bud dupree.

No, I don't make it sound like he's useless. He is a good special teams player and can fill in for a few plays here and there. I know he is a downgrade because I can look at what he did when the Steelers were forced to use him late last season and I can see what a poor player he was elsewhere. I'm not sure he really is better than Adeniyi, but that's a really low bar. He has also been cut many times by teams in the league for a reason.
