Look i didnt want to lose Neslon either, but the last thing i want is another disgruntled player who doesnt want to be here. You cant keep/make everyone happy all the time. such is life!! We were looking for a corner when we found him, and we'll just be lookin again...Players are just like a good piece of ass....some hang around longer than others for whatever reason...

Hopefully They will tell Tomlin to go set in the truck , when they decide to select a CB

He's a project but we think with proper coaching he can be a solid corner. Despite our dismal reputation at doing so.

Here's a question, why doesn't he want to be here. Is it all money? Maybe he realizes this team is going nowhere in the foreseeable future. But let's not peak behind the curtain, all is well in Steelerland.

I look at it this way: the important contribution from Nelson was mentoring Pierre, Layne and Sutton into what it takes to be a successful pro

The Steelers parted ways with him, not the other way around.

I’d be hugely surprised if it wasn’t a contractual dispute. They had to get his cap hit down and wanted to extend him, made him an offer that he probably considered an insult, both sides knew a deal wasn’t going to get done so here we are. He probably wanted cornerback #1 money, I don’t think he is worth that personally. Once negotiations stalked he was never going to work with them using void years or whatever.

Pity they couldn’t get something for him but there was and still is some good corners still available when all this blew up.

He had a nice situation in Pittsburgh, good pass rush and good players beside him in the secondary, including a couple of really good slot guys. He may regret this if he struggles at his next team. I don’t think he is anything more than a solid #2, not that that isn’t valuable.

They most likely got together and Steven's agent said he wanted to stay in Pittsburgh and the FO wanted him too as well but that the 8.5 million on his final year wasn't doable they needed to extend him and lower that hit but still not giving away the farm in the deal. He and his agent didn't like the numbers and the options became ask for a trade before he is cut. Ideal time would have been right before FA began but now they are into the thick of it and money for good teams is tight. His comment about being held hostage is just that Pittsburgh had no reason to rush cutting him but could scuttle any teams attempt to get him on the cheap by holding on to him until all the big money is gone. End of the day it was business for both

It aint like Steve Nelson signed a 10 year contract and 8 years in wanted to renegotiate. He just signed the damn thing a couple years ago. I dont understand why these guys dont think they have to honor a deal they signed. He went from being ok to not being happy and wanting to be traded when Sutton got a new deal. Maybe he thought he was underpaid to todays standards well tough sh*t, play out your deal then move along, or in his case cry till they let you go.

That was a percentage for a guy who wasn't a starter for 11 weeks. A big percentage of those snaps game against Indy's backups. Also, let's see that turn into pressures and sacks. Sorry, but no, he's not even close to Dupree at this point.

They were salary cap strapped. It was him or Hayden after they signed Sutton. Lot's of guys getting cut this year because of the down cap!

I don't think this was case of him coming to the Steelers wanting more money or a trade. This is just a guess, but I think they came to him wanting him to restructure his deal or take a pay cut and he refused.

At the end of the day i dont believe they asked him to restructure for less money than his original signed deal.... He just wanted a pay raise ,which at some point he may have got ,just not right now.

You may be right but i dont believe they thought his play warrented a pay cut. Unless your play is clearly declining ,which i dont think it was ,would this have been a tactic the front office would have used.

Why would the Steelers tell him to seek a trade, why wouldn’t Colbert just work the phones instead of making it public and killing any chance of finding a trade partner.

I don't know. There have been a few departures in recent years that the team handled poorly. This feels like another one.
