From an email the Steelers sent season ticketholders:

The NFL is considering a change to the schedule structure that could result with some teams having a home schedule of 1 preseason game and 9 regular season games. The NFL has not yet confirmed if this will take place for the 2021 season and if so, which teams would have such a schedule. Once additional information is available, we will communicate how it might affect your season ticket package.

    Hmm....

So the NFL is attempting to expedite the 17 Game Season then?! Too early to tell as the Email implies. That said, this is an interesting development and I hope there is more to come soon.

A proposal for the 17 game season that I read about and that makes sense:

    - the 17th game will be an inter conference game. One year all AFC teams get 9 home games, the next yr all NFC teams will
    - this will keep conf tiebreakers ‘honest’, no playoff tiebreak will involve teams that played different number of home games.
    - the NFC opponent will be from the division you played 2 seasons ago. So you won’t play the same NFC opponent two yrs in a row regardless of the rotation of NFC divisions in the sched.
    - specific NFC opponent will be based on how you finished. 1st place AFC vs 1st place NFC, 2nd vs 2nd, 3rd vs 3rd etc,

If this the case, the AFCN will play the NFCW, the Steelers will play Sea, Balt vs Rams, Cle vs Ariz, Cin vs SF.

The players could nix this if they wanted to. But they want the revenue at least as much as the owners do.

I always thought that if they went to a 17 game schedule, that 17th game should be at a neutral site. That could be the international game or maybe play a game where there is no local team. Maybe give the SB winner a game the following year in Hawaii where the Pro Bowl used to be played
